I think $50 is appropriate for a 1st Communion gift...I got $20 or $25 back in the day, lol..but i think now that is the average gift. Hope this helps!
Oh and a reception at the watermill??? Lucky kid!!! :)

lol... I went to a 'reception' at the Watermill for a communion once...
be prepared for tons and tons of great food - it was like a wedding!
Cash is a great gift, or a savings bond - I'm not sure how much I'd give - I guess it depends on your relationship w/ the kid and his parents... ranging between $100 and $200?
eta: $$$ range

oooh ok, didn't know his Dad was the BM. I got at LEAST $100 for my communion, and it was in my backyard. (That was about 15 yrs ago)

Re: 1st Communion Gift?
a bond may be more appropriate for a christening gift - I still have some $$$ in bonds sitting around that I can't do anything with yet - they haven't matured. Write a check, or go with the cash -
my communion/confirmation gifts helped me pay my first year of college!

Woah, I got nothing of the sort. $50 is a very nice gift for a 7 year old.

Re: 1st Communion Gift?
I can understand more than 50 from immediate relatives (parents and grandparents) but for those who posted 100-200?? Thats way too much i believe. One thing if you have it to spare...but that is NOT the norm. Not where I'm from anyway. $50 is generous and he will think thats a ton of money, believe me...

I'd get a bond for the kid. Spend $50 and the bond has a face value of $100.

If it's at the Watermill, IMO..I would try and cover the plate cost..

i think $50 is appropriate. that's what i gave to my nephew last year. a savings bond is also a good idea.

That's what I originally was thinking, but since the kid's dad is the head BM for the Watermill I KNOW they are not paying anywhere near what any of us would be paying.
Oh..back to square one..I think the bond is a good idea than!!

Re: 1st Communion Gift?
I would definitely give more than $50 for two people. I would at least give $100, probably more like $150-200.

i would not give less than $150-$200 for two people. $50 is cheap in my opinion...

thanks, was that really necessary? $200 for a communion? i think that's nuts. for a wedding maybe, but a communion? an 8 year old getting $200? seems excessive to me, but whatever....

Re: 1st Communion Gift?
What about a present more oriented to someone his age? Maybe a gift cert to a sports store, toy store, etc
All I know is almost 19 years later (eek) I still remember my favorite Bat Mitzvah present was from one of my mom's friends - she gave me a Benetton bear and a gift cert to Benetton. At that age, the $$ didn't mean anything to me because it just went into an account!
