Tom just started recently. His boss bought him a kayak that he keeps at work and once in a while they go out on their kayaks and go fishing. Tough Job!

Tom loves his! We went on one on our honeymoon, actually, now that I think of it and it was quite nice
Be daring! Give it a whirl!

Mr Boots wants me to go, but the idea of being in an enclosed kayak and rolling over... it freaks me out a little!
I have this image in my head of getting stuck and drowning!
in river or ocean? I have never rolled in the ocean, on a river we did roll. I was nervous at first, but we practiced it a few times. Ours had a release, so if I got nervous I knew I would forget about everything and pull the release. A lot of our rolls could have been prevented, but I think DH enjoyed them. I was scared of rolling and hitting a rock, but we never even came close.

I do - FH just got a 2 person kayak. His sister and brother have kayaks too - It is awesome. It is a river kayak (we take it on rivers and in the bay) and SO MUCH FUN!

They go through the inlets around Island Park.
Janice have you ever used the ride-on-top kayak? Lori, what does Tom use?
we used a ride on top kayak in the ocean. DH says they are not as streamlined as the closed ones. Unless you are in rapids, I don't think you will roll.

Re: Does anyone kayak?
He says he's never rolled...which is good because he keeps all of his stuff in his pockets with him when he goes (wallet, cell phone, keys, etc. ) He already ruined one cell phone by dropping it in the water while fishing - so keep your fingers crossed he never rolls

Re: Does anyone kayak?
I've gone twice. ( Once on the hudson & onc ein Antigua) I am awful, but I have never rolled! My problem is that I just don't go anwhere.
The instructor I had the first time, said if you flip, jsut swim away from the kayak & he will help get you back in. Re-flipping is intermediate lessons, I suppose.
As you may imagine, NerdBoy has a natural talent for it
ETA- I think the kind we had in Antigua were ride- on -top, but not the kind we had on the Hudson.

Re: Does anyone kayak?
I have a sit on top kayak. If I rolled which I seriously dont even think I will, I would fall in and get wet... thats about it. the trouble with 'sit in kayaks' is that you may actually have a chance of getting stuck inside while rolling and have a little problem getting your head above water.
kayaking is tons of fun and great exercise. and if you think you may be kayaking in areas where there is boat traffic Id suggest getting a bright colored one.

Also, on the ride on top ones, if you are fair, sunscreen up those legs, mine burned so bad.

The guide I had said that wouldn't be a problem, but I am not sure if I believe him.

Re: Does anyone kayak?
put it this way, if you flip it much easier to get out of a sit on top since your whole body is free.
I can stand on top of my kayak, but I cant fish while im standing because its too wobbly.
