Re: Does anyone kayak?

I would think that since Mr Boots is sooo much bigger than you (not because you're small or anything! ) that it would be his head that gets stuck, then you'd be able to swim free! (or are they just one person kayaks???? )

I have been looking into getting one (or two, one for me and one for DH). They are not cheap! I'd prefer to get two but I have seen the ones for two people. And I have seen inflatable ones but I worry about their durability. Our house is very close to a reservior, which is basically a very big puddle, and nothing motorized is allowed on it, so there's no turbulence.

Those Eastern Mountain Sports stores offer courses on kayaking. We may take one before we spend the money.

You dont get stuck, you can get out. Once you become more experienced you can actually just flip your self back over.

I was kayaking yesterday - AL has two sit in kayaks.

I understand your fear of getting stuck, but it doesn't really happen. The opening is rather large, so if you flip you'd fall out (unless you're wearing a spray skirt - then you'd have to release the spray skirt to fall out)

Its also not the easy to entirely flip over - you may roll to the side, but thats easy to recover from. Just keep your hips loose and move with the kayak - that should keep you upright unless you're in extreme conditions.
