A few years ago Mr Boots' mother was all 'Ooh, Greek Fest! let's all go down to Jones Beach!' It took us a while to explain, because we were laughing so hard, that it was college frats and sororities!

OK, that is too funny because I thought it was the nationality, not the frats! I was going to tell you to eat some feta! Do the frats and sororities come from all over, or just colleges around here? I've never heard of it.

I once was trapped in this when I went to Jones and had no idea what the heck was going on!!! IT WAS AWFUL!!! I literally think I was stuck in traffic for two hours before I even got to the toll booths to turn around

As far as traffic, I was on the Southern State around 3pm and the eastbound side was PACKED....

Re: Greek-Fest this weekend...

Greekfest is actually a national event that takes place in many major cities. The one here on long island realistically is not even geared to the college greeks. It has been taken over by high school seniors who graduate and think this is a big party, and by a lot of people who never even attended college and just go down there to socialize with other young folks.

Most greeks in NY attend the greekfest weekend in Philly which takes places in July and is not advertised that much to the public so that it serves its purpose to unite greeks.

Although I am not greek, MANY, MANY of my friends are and they hate what greekfest at Jones Beach has become. I been there with them twice in the recent years and the number of people in frats and sororities who attend are very, very few.

Re: Greek-Fest this weekend...

This is what happened to me and DH a few years ago. It took us 3 hours to drive what should have taken us between 30-45 minutes. As soon as we could we turned around and went home!
I have to go to Jersey tomorrow and DH just reminded me of this
I will be staying on northern roads tomorrow.
Does anyone know how the evening commute will be?

And I love how we have to pay for all of the extra police!!!!

A few years ago Newsday ran a story in which they interviewed a 21 year old father who brought his 5 or 6 year old son saying, 'I never went to college and wanted my son to experience this to know what college is like'

Ummmm, hello 'King of all Idiots'... your son is 5 years old and there are people walking around with practically nothing on, drinking, cursing, all types of inappropriate, mysoginistic behavior going on... your not educating him you are contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

I have been trapped in the traffic too and saw all sorts of things going on thatt weren't a part of my college days

So where is this traffic?
I have to go to my parents today in Fort Salonga and I'd like to get there on time because we have to drive my grandparents there and they're crazy!
