I agree....BUT, it's YOUR wedding, and if you are really upset about your mom wearing black, can you talk to her and tell her how you feel? Maybe just doesn't know just HOW opposed to it you are?

I personally dont think the mother of the bride/groom or grandmas should be in black. It is a personal preference and I too would be upset. Maybe the dress she loves comes in another color? Talk to her, if you feel very strongly about it and you explain to her why you dont like it, maybe she will come around. good luck!

I do agree, as nice as it may look to others, if it really bothers you, talk to her. I was trying to give you the perspective that it will not look as bad as you think it may...but if it really upsets you, tell her how you feel. Good luck!

My mom bought a black dress - she is not really a 'color' person and wanted black. I don't mind at all bc my BM dresses are platinum and I think it will look great.
However, if it really bothers you that much, just talk to her about it.

Re: My Mother Bought a Black Dress for My Wedding!
My mom will almost definately be wearing a black pantsuit. I am not exactly happy with it because I know other colors look better on her and I want her to look her best since she will be giving me away but if that is what she wants, I am okay with it.
If it really bothers you, I agree with the others and talk to her about it.

Re: My Mother Bought a Black Dress for My Wedding!
My mom is wearing black to my wedding. It is a beautiful gown that looks fab in black. I didnt really care, I just wanted her to be comfortable. I come from a very Italian family who told my mom she shouldnt wear black, but I told her mom wear whatever you want. My mom is also walking me down the aisle (no dad)...
I think now a days black is considered elegant and not anything else. JMO!!

When FMIL asked what color she should wear, I said any color but black, well guess what? She's wearing black. I don't really care, i just want her to feel comfortable! Also, I have learned to pick my battles!!

My Mom wore black and she looked so great and classy!! I wanted her to be comfortable so I didn't even give her any color options. I let her be.

Re: My Mother Bought a Black Dress for My Wedding!
I usually love to wear black. But personally, I don't like black for weddings, I love the idea of cheerful colors. Black is a very classy and elegant look, so I am definalty not saying that it can't work for a wedding. If you were getting married in July, I would say black would just look to hot for a summer wedding, but since yours is a fall wedding, it makes it easier for darker colors to work. I wouldn't particularly like my mom, or key memebers of my wedding to wear black. But if someone chooses a black drees, I'm sure in the end it wouldn't effect the happniess of my day. Talk to your mom, she might be ok with switiching, maybe if she likes the dress style, she can find it in another brighter color.

Re: My Mother Bought a Black Dress for My Wedding!
my mom wore black to my wedding. And to my sister's wedding. I think it looks quite classy and formal. Especially in pictures and such. Did you tell her you didn't want her to wear black and she did it anyway?
I think it's very common now.
I'm sorry you are unhappy about it.

Re: My Mother Bought a Black Dress for My Wedding!
I understand how you feel. I told my mom & Steve's mom they both had to wear beige or pink. Neither one liked the idea, so I think I'll drop it & let them wear what they like. The photos will come out better if they are happy & relaxed, think about it that way. HTH

I also think black is elegant. I think you have to decide when planning a wedding what is most important. If you really do not want her wearing black, then tell her
Good Luck

Re: My Mother Bought a Black Dress for My Wedding!
I think its important for your mom to wear what she feels comfortable in. Many women feel they look best in black no matter what size they are.. As you said she looked at many dresses in many colors and this is the one she chose, so obviously this is the one she absolutely loves. When it all comes down to it, is it really so important the color your mom wore, or that she felt beautiful and comfortable?

Re: My Mother Bought a Black Dress for My Wedding!
i think if the wedding is at night its fine to wear black. its classy and elegant. maybe you can convince her to get a light colored shawl or something to go with it to add some color
