any other household appliances burn up when plugged into that outlet? It could be a wiring issue

Since you need a new one anyway, buy a pricier one, it might even be better on your hair.... I always kill my sister's blowdryers when I am at her apartment, she buys the ones from cvs, and doesn't really use them a lot, whereas I take about 20 minutes to blow out my hair....the money is worth it! Good thing it didn't singe your hair....

Was it this one?
I've had bad luck with that particular one.
I splurged and got this one which has worked well so far. I got it on Amazon for $40, but considering how quickly I went through other brands it was worth the price.
Do you hold the dryer right up to your hair? That also causes malfunctions.

Re: Hairdryers (AKA What, Me Worry?)
i go through 1-2 hair dryers a year
they are just not made for long term
maybe you have to clean out the vent thing?

I too have had bad luck with Conairs. I have a Vidal Sasson dryer now - still not too $$ but no smoke or fires yet.

I too, had that problem, so I stopped buying the cheap ones at CVS. I invested in a Solano, and can bring it back to the store I bought it at for service, I've had ot for 2 years and haven't had to bring it in yet. It was pricey, but well worth it, AND it cut my drying time in half.

They don't make them like they used to.

Be careful and unplug when you aren't using it--my mom's once went on fire even when it wasn't turned on!

Me too!!!!!! This is exactly what I was going to write. They're super-expensive (DH almost dropped dead when I told him how much I had spent) but over time it's totally worth it since a) it's a lot better for your hair and b) you're spending it 1 time. They're made for professional use (up to 10 blow outs a day for 10 years) so you should pretty much be set for the next 10-15 years with it. You do have to clean out the vent about 1x/month to keep it working perfectly but that takes all of 2 minutes. I highly recommend it.

Re: Hairdryers (AKA What, Me Worry?)
Posted by MonkeyLuv All right, I'm still incredulous, but I'll give it a whirl. Besides Solano, what are some other professional brands that are reliable and not prone to bursting into flames.
ETA: and where can I find them?
ULTA is the best place to go...(I think)

I bought mine at Ricky's in NYC. Check out the ULTA website for other high end brands. Or, you can ask your hairstylist what she/he uses.
Eogara-my FH does NOT know how much I spent, he would kill me if he knew!
ETA: Folica.com has a better selection than Ulta.
