Re: Please someone tell me this isn't the end of the world

I always remember my mom telling me that one of the best weddings she went to was their friends getting married at town hall. She said the bride wore a very simple white dress and the groom his best suit. They were surrounded by their friends and family and had a small gathering at their apartment later. My mom said there wasn't enough seats so she wound up sitting on the hamper in the bathroom! But to this day if you ask her, it will be her best wedding that she ever went to.... and she already married off five of her own children (i'm #6!) So no, it isn't the end of the world! It is the beginning of a wonderful relationship with your loving husband.

I am so sorry to hear this news.

Regardless of all the other things going on in the world today, I would be as crushed as you are. The important thing is that you and FH are OK, and there will not only be a wedding, but a marriage!

Can you get married at a town hall in 06, and then have the wedding you were dreaming about in 07 to give you time to save? Kind of like a huge one year anniversary?

Keep in mind the marriage is the most important part, the reception is just a party. It doesn't matter how many guests you have, the cost per plate, or the DJ package that you choose. No matter whether you have that or not, the single most important thing is that you will be married.

Have the party that you two want to have and can afford to have. Whether it's in '06, '07 or not at all.

Lot's of . It's a difficult decision for both of you.
Best of luck.

I'm so sorry But you are right, this is not the end of the world. You will still be married to the man you love, and at the end of the day, that is what is important. It sounds like you have put a lot of thought into this decision, and it is the best one for you and your FH. You will still have the most important elements of a wedding - being married to you FH, surrounded by the people you love most.

Best of luck!

Re: Please someone tell me this isn't the end of the world

This is not the end of the world.
My parents got married in mom's cousins house. My mom never got an engagement ring. They had no money, yet got married anyway. No big fancy party, just a celebration with close friends and family. They just celebrated their 30th anniversary this past March!
I know it seems awful now, but in the end you will still have achieved what you wanted, marrying the man of your dreams.
Maybe in a few years, when things are more finanically stable, you can renew your vows and have the big party!
Hang in there, it will all be ok!!

Thanks Jackie, I feel awful about the whole thing. I wish I had the money to lend you. I still think there is hope and you should talk to your parents. Both of you!!!!!!!!!! You better at least try.
I will be there where ever you decide to get married.

I wish I could make you feel better but I just wanted to say you've always got us here anytime. The way you feel is totally understandable but you've got so much going for you. Ultimately you will be married to a wonderful man regardless if there is a party for it. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for you. Best of luck to you both.

I am sooo sorry that you are going through this. Try to focus on the ceremony - that is the true wedding, the reception is just the after party (like at the Oscars - an after party). The moment you say 'I do' all of the feelings you have right now won't even pop into your head.

I wish you all the best as Mrs. H - since with or without the 'party' that is who you will become!!

oh my god, jackie.. everything happens for a reason..

no - it isnt the end of the world - you still have each other and it was a decision you had to make and in the end - you still have each other and that matters more than a wedding reception..

good luck with everything...

No matter where you get married it will be special and wonderful b/c you will be marring the man of your dreams.. and having the right person to grow old with is worth more then a thousand weddings...

Oh, I'm so sorry! But you will have a beautiful ceremony, and you are going to be a bride no matter what type of wedding you have...large or small. Enjoy the fact that you can have an intimate celebration with your loved ones, and you will be able to experience and remember every detail for years to come. Best of luck to you and your FH!!

On your wedding day you will be a bride...a beautiful blushing bride with a man who loves you and who you love! This may seem like the end of the world right now because you are sad...BUT remember what is most important in the long run is that you have eachother and the big reception does not make for a happy marriage! Love and commitement do! You will have that without the big party..and one day you will have that too if you choose to! We are here for you and even though you may not want to come on please do when you feel up to it to let us know how you are doing...You are still getting married and we would love to know how it is going!
