I do not think that altar decorations are a necessity

Honey, you can do whatever you want! Remember, it's your wedding and you do what you like. If you don't want to spend the money on them, don't. It's no biggie. You and FH are the only two that should care what it looks like and if you like it without - then don't get them.

Especially if your church is very ornate, I don't think its necessary at all.

Re: Let me rephrase that...
My church isn't really that fancy but..I told the florist to make minimal altar pieces because we have to leave them there anyway on top of paying a fee for the church

Yeah I dont plan on going too crazy with the decorations for the church, not going to be there as long as you will be at your reception.

Re: Let me rephrase that...
I am not getting any altar decorations, my church is very pretty and they are going to have the Thanksgiving decorations up, so those will do just fine.

I'm not doing any decorations at the church, it doesn't need it at all.

Re: Let me rephrase that...
We're not getting any altar decorations for the following reasons:
(1) Church is pretty much 'fancy' to begin with
(2) We're a few weeks after Easter and there will probably be flowers around anyway.
(3) Completely unnecessary to spend that money b/c no one notices it!
So...you're golden!

Good, I knew I was just being practical, but I considered that maybe I was being chintzy.
I nominate all of you to tell my FH's aunt that I'm not getting flowers for the church!
If your church is ornate, you don't need them as decoration It might even look beter without pews bows & things like that, but sometimes alter flowers are considered an offering to the church. I'm not sure if it is the same way in a Greek Orthodox church.

Re: Let me rephrase that...
we are only doing 2 alter dealies and 6 pew decorations.
if you church is super-fancy, no one will miss the flowers and it will just take away from the beauty of the church

Re: Let me rephrase that...
I didn't do a single thing in my church. Not even pew bows. I thought my church was most beautiful the way it usually is.

I mean really, have you ever been to a wedding and think, 'what great flowers on the alter. This is the best wedding ever'. It's such a small detail that no one will remember!
