also vegetarian dishes probably cost less to make...than chicken or filet mignon. the wedding businesses are something else....try not to let it ruin the fun and beautfy of your wedding, deb

I think it is absolutely absurd that you are being charged $7 PP to list the name of a dish on a menu when you are making the menus yourself!!!

The catering hall should be ashamed of themselves. There is NO way I would pay that kind of money to the catering hall. Isn't that the point of a DIY project, to keep costs down?? Why should you pay them!?????

I would go above the person you spoke with to the owners or BM's immediate superior and complain. If I got no satisfaction I would suck it up and put vegetarian entree available upon request on the bottom, and then email every single vegetarian invited telling them exactly what the dish is with a brief apology that the name of the dish will not be listed on the menu.

I bet that even if you took away one of the other choices and replaced it with a veggie choice so you wouldn't have to pay extra, it would be okay b/c a lot of ppl. who aren't even vegetarians would order it anyway. Especially if it's like a pasta and veggie dish.

My caterer offers us 5 entrees one of which HAS to be a vegetarian option.

I'm mostly a vegetarian, and I wouldn't mind if a menu just said 'upon request.' I would just be happy that they had something available!

As long as your menu says 'vegetarian entree upon request', I am sure the vegetarians will be fine. I was a vegetarian for 10 years and after a while you get used to scouring the menu for something to eat (or asking the waiter if they have anything for vegetarians that aren't on the list). It is no biggie.

I agree! I would NOT pay $1,500 extra just to be able to have it written on the menu.

I would call your family who is vegetarian and let them know they can request it. I'm a vegetarian and my friend whos getting married on Oct 1st just emailed me and told me the vegetarian options and told me to request it. Honeslty, it made me feel so good that she thought of me.

I would put it on the menu as upon request and have them request it.

That's what I did. We didn't have menus , though, so I told the vegetarians to request it. I thi kit is fine to just have it as ' upon request' , b/c at least they will see it there. You won'' even need to contact them all indivdually. I only had 3, so it was easy.

I thikn the reasonign there is not that it would then become an additonal entree, available to everyone, not the actual cost of typing it on the menu.

Personally I think catering halls try to squeeze every last penny out of brides-to-be...I would call them and ask them to just throw it in. Tell them you think it's absurd and unfair...Mention the fact that you are giving them 'X' amount of dollars as it is...
Don't let them get away with it...

On the other hand, perhaps for future brides, you may want to have these things ironed out *before* you sign your contract and not when you're on your way to select your menus.

But the vegi entree WILL be available, so essentially, she WOULD be paying the extra $ JUST to have it included on the menu....and I do realize that this may then cause some non-vegetarian guests to order this entree, but one would think that they would be prepared to accomodate more than a couple vegetarians to begin with.

Maybe I'd give an approximate (high) number of possible vegi dishes that will be needed, and then just write 'upon request'.
