I wouldn't hire her- that is not a normal topic to discuss with a customer!
I would have left right away!

Re: Politics and Consumers: Poll
I would not. Not only is is in extremely poor taste to have a conversation such as this from a possible client, but I too disagree with her and would hate to think that any $$ I give her may be used to propel her theory into any sort of political motion.

Re: Politics and Consumers: Poll
I have no idea of the political backgrounds of any of my wedding vendors, and that's the way it should be! It's a business transaction, and just as the Macy's check out person shouldn't ask me if I am a Republican, I think it is just as inappropriate for someone like that to make her views known with a potential client.
Weird! When I worked on Wall Street, I think I was the only Democrat on the trading floor. That was weird when we got into heated discussions, but I had no problem working with them. Working to make the rich richer was the problem.

I was thinking the same thing.

Re: Politics and Consumers: Poll
I wouldn't not work with her, because of her beliefs, but because she chose to rant about her beliefs with me, when we should only be discussing the matter at hand. Even if it wa something I agreed with, if the conversation seemed inapporpriate, it would still disuade me.

Re: Politics and Consumers: Poll
I would hire someone who has different politics, but not if they feel the need to go into random diatribes about their politics/beliefs. NO WAY!

The poll doesn't tell the whole story. I would hire someone that had different beliefs but I would not hire the florist you saw if that's how she behaved.

If her price was right, and she did great work, I'd hire as a FLORIST, not a moral advisor. And I'd try to make that clear to her.

Re: Politics and Consumers: Poll
Well, honestly, this is something you shouldn't even know about vendor. A vendor's politcal views should not interfere with his or hers buisness, and if it does, then there is a problem there. What in the world made her start talking about that anyway? I would have felt extremely uncomfortable, and do not blame you for not wanting to hire her.

The poll isn't to determine if I should hire her. I already know I'm not going to because it was inappropriate. The poll is simply inspired by the situation. I'm just curious how other people would react in similar circumstances.
That's exactly what the poll says. I don't care what the vendor believes in. But how she behaved would make my decision even if all of the other things feel into place.

Re: Politics and Consumers: Poll
I actually think how it is worded in the poll is fine, because frankly, if I hear about the vendor's political views in the span of a short meeting that should be professional, I don't think I would want to hire the vendor. I think it is unprofessional to get into a discussion like this when I am looking at flowers.
But I guess, if I go by what I just said, I shouldn't hire him/her if I agreed with his/her views. hmmmmm.....

I would have hired her. If the price is right and it is a good product, I don't care.
