Actually, last night I had an epiphany on this subject...
I suddenly realized that this wedding planning was taking over my life, and I was stressing myself out over it and neglecting other (very important) things, like my school work and getting my resume tightened up to apply for jobs. I was talking to my mother and telling her how stressed I am and she just looked at me and said 'Don't worry about it. It's your wedding, it will be beautiful no matter where you have it.' (my current stress is booking a reception hall)
And I suddenly realized that something I had so looked forward to for so long was just taking over my life and making me miserable. So, I took a deep breath, put down my wedding plannning books, and stopped. And today, I feel so much lighter and calmer. I'm (obviously) still reading these boards and thinking about it, but the reminder that there are other things in my life that are more immediate and also important, and the reminder that this is about creating a day that I can enjoy where I can celebrate my love for my fiance just made all the planning craziness feel that much less important.

Re: Unhappy with planning
I'm glad to hear there are other girls out there that feel the same way as I do. I just got engaged and already I am feeling major anxiety. I don't know if it's just because I feel like there is soooo much to do or if it's just because I haven't done much of anything and I'll get more in to it once I have stuff crossed off the list.
I've waited for this my whole life and now I am already stressed!

Re: Unhappy with planning
Seriously I got stressed for like a second. A few weeks after I got engaged I started crying uncontrollably and my mom was like calm down you can handle it. Right then and there I decided to take 1 thing at a time. And that's what I've done. 1st was the hall, then the church and now the flowers next will be the photographer/video. Hopefully I find then in the same place. Just take on one task at a time. It won't be so overwhelming then.

I feel the same way!! I'm completely neglecting school...it's too overwhelming and I'm consumed with the planning lately. I think I need to just stop looking at this point and get back to it after finals.

Frustrated is a perfect word to describe where I am at right now.
Isn't nice to know that you aren't alone?

Re: Unhappy with planning
I would like it better if I wasnt in school but it's my fault for taking 8 years for my undergrad! I like when I get a good deal but hate worrying that big things are going to go wrong.
I wanted to get married in the Keys with a cruise worked into it!! Oh well, planning is easier this way! I hear ya and assure you that all of the plannning will pay off!!! Take a break from it for a week or more...
one of my friends stopped planning for a few months and has a fresh outlook on it all!! you can do it!!!

Re: Unhappy with planning
Take a Break from planning......don't let it become a chore. It should be fun and exciting. - Don't get me wrong, there are going to be times you are stressed out - But it's a PARTY !! You have plenty of time to get everything done, take some time off from the drama and excitement - Deal w/ the stress of the Holidays instead !!!

Re: Unhappy with planning
You are not alone. I loved the fact that I was a bride to be, someone special. BUT I hated the planning. I am very OCD when it comes to things like this, I had a planner with itemized lists, etc. I really drove myself nuts. I would take a step back for a while and then come back to it when you can enjoy it. Maybe start up again after the holidays or honestly take up the help of some of the ladies on here - I am sure they can help.

Re: Unhappy with planning
I was not into the planning in the beginning- I was studying for a test and had to force myself not to look at anything wedding related. But once that was done, I just got a cool planner (it always helps to buy yourself a little something ) and got started. I really enjoy planning and coordinating things, so this is great for me. I try to narrow down vendor choices, and then go over the final 3ish with FI. We try to take care of one thing a week - usually on the weekend, so it is not really overwhelming.
And, I have to say, this site is a HUGE help! I have learned so many cool things, and got great tips from all of you!
Don't stress! Take a day or two away from it, and maybe you will be able to look at it from a new perspective.

Re: Unhappy with planning
I hated most of it and got sick of hearing people tell me that it is the happiest time of my life. BAH! I loved my day and everything turned out wonderfully, but I was so sick of the planning that I couldn't wait until the day arrived. And I had sort of a low maintenance wedding.
The first year of marriage, on the other hand has been great!
