Re: Closing Drama

take it from the future wife of a mortgage broker

they are all rough- they are all filled with drama

now imagine if you livihood depended on the loan closing- my FH comes home screaming most nights!

they never go smooth! I bet our own closing wont either!

too many variables!

Re: Closing Drama

I am in the Title business (I own a title agency), but worked for an attorney for 6 years and am in an office with that atty for 3 (so total 9 years).

Anyway, closings are not always rough. Actually most closings go pretty smoothly, unless of course you are using sub-prime lenders. Most closing are scheduled 2-3 days in advance, not weeks unless everything has been in order. There are always things on commitments that need fine tuning, most mortgage brokers leave them hanging to the last minute and also sometimes banks bring them up at the last minute.

I have attended at least 200 hundred and the majority have been drama free. Don't worry, unless your attorney/mortgage broker/bank isn't doing their job properly your closing really should be drama free. Good luck and congratulations!

that's funny- b/c my FH always blames the title company- but he deals with people with less then perfect credit

maybe he should use yours- it would make my life better

Re: Closing Drama

Title Companies have the least involvement in the closing process. It is really up to the mortgage company (whether through a bank or broker) to get the deal done (unless it's an all cash deal, which are usually the best deals).

I have seen so many deals crumple because of shady brokers. Unfortunately, nowadays everywhere you go a new mortgage broker and real estate broker has popped up. I think that is probably what has caused the drama at closings. Everyone thinks since the real estate market got so hot for awhile and they knew an ounce of knowledge about the business that they could open up their own business. Unfortunately, they wind up taken advantage of people and getting them loans and finding them houses they never should have had in the first place.

Re: Closing Drama

I didnt know until the day before that I was closing and it was about 2 or 3 hours before the closing that I knew what the $ of the bank check was suppose to be.
Besides that fact that the bank screwed up some paper work and my interest rate, it is almost a year later and I still havnt straighten it out.

Be patient it will all work out in the end.

I hope you aren't implying that my FH is 'shady' - he is a series 7 lic stockbroker who went into the mortgage business after 9/11- he has worked for many top companies including Wells Fargo before striking out on his own

most of his deals close just fine- but it always seems something happens right before- like missing document- mistake on paper

I was just trying to make the other girls feel better- that it's normal to have a few issues-

NO, I would NEVER call your FH 'shady' or imply that. I'm sure he is great at what he does.

I'm sure if asked him about my above statement he would agree with me. He probably sees it all the time. I'm sure he gets frustrated as he** when people come in paying of mortgages that a broker set them up with that they never should have had in the first place. Those are the brokers are hate.

And yes, to have issues, without a doubt it happens. It's very common.

Re: Closing Drama

My closing took place half a month later than I wanted it to. But it was because the sellers had a problem with their closing of the house they were buying, and of course, didn't want to close until they knew they had a definite closing. It was very frustrating though because I had to extend my rate lock, but luckily it was available to me to extend for a week so the price wasn't bad.

that really stinks! like it isn't stressful enough to look for a house and do everything on time on your part.........why don't people do the job that they are getting paid to do right? even though that person is on vacation, there should be a backup plan. just keep thinking about how beautiful your house will be!

I'm so sorry to hear about your problem with closing. I'm worried about this happening to me too, we got our commitment last week but we haven't scheduled a closing date as yet. I know with the holidays everything will be pushed back. Well good luck!!
