Re: We chose our menu! INFORMAL POLL

i think it's wonderful that you are able to have a vegan menu. i also am surprised that so many ppl get upset if there is no meat. i don't think you should have to have meat just to appease anyone. your wedding guests should probably be notified it is a vegan menu though, just so y ou don't meet any dissension. i do think having a plain pasta choice is reasonable too just in case. but i definitely dont' think you HAVE to have meat on a menu.

Maybe it's none of my business, but can I just suggest one thing? I understand that being vegan is important to you guys, but you may end up with some unhappy guests who don't appreciate the lack of a meat choice. When I have any type of party, I always consider my vegetarian/vegan friends and make sure that there are a few things in each course that they can eat. I just think it would nice to consider non-vegans who might not be thrilled at the menu choice. I appreciate the effort you put into doing this, but I would have no idea which one to pick if I had the choice. I could be totally off here... I'm just offering something to consider. I hope you don't get mad at my offering my opinion...

Stephanie was asking what we'd choose from her list - not what any of us would offer in addition to this or what we serve in our homes and not what we think about a vegan menu. Her decision has been made and I applaud her and her FH for standing by it.

I answered her question. I did not attack her at all, I was very respectful in offering another point of view, which is what we all do here. I don't see why you feel the need to be someone's 'bodyguard' again. I'm sure if she wanted to reply to me, she would have. Really... this is the second time you're trying to start something with me for no reason. I'm not the only one that was surprised by the lack of meat choices, yet you chose to single my response out, which was BEYOND respectful. It's just another opinion that she might want to CONSIDER. I thought she would like to know how her guests might feel BEFORE she has some unhappy/surprised guests. I just think options are good... as did some other brides here. (I apologize to other brides reading this... I'm just trying to help, and I don't appreciate being talked down to - again - from this bride).

By the way...

Stephanie, have you tried 'Rice Krispie Treats' with the DARK chocolate fountain?! To DIE for!!! See if the NRC has that, and if you like it, ask them to put that out. Sooooooo good!

As a vegetarian and ex-vegan (vegan for two years til I moved in with FH) I COMMEND your meal choices.

Wow...this is beyond rude!! Is this really necessary? I'm ashamed for you.

Anyway...I would choose #3. As soon as I read 'root vegetables' I thought of my days in PR and the yautia, ñame, plantain and yucca dishes my grandpa would make me...with olive oil and butter...yumm!! And NO meat!! Believe it or not, it was quite filling and exquisite!

It's amazing that some people could be so rude about someone else's choices. Wonder how they would feel if it was about them and their choices.

Re: We chose our menu! INFORMAL POLL

i would pick the butternut squash. i went to a veggie (not vegan) wedding once and a lot of the guests were upset. i know you don't want to hear this, but I think it's something you should consider. and i come from a family with a lot of vegetarians ( I was one myself until a few years ago), but like some others have said, it might be considerate to think of your guests' views. not everyone cares about vegetarianism as others do.

If you are morally opposed to it, then go this route. for instance, i am very opposed to certain things, like veal, lobster (cooked alive!), and i refuse to put it on my menu.

I think if you really believe in a cause, you should stick with it. it is your $$ after all, and why spend it on something you are morally against?

But make sure you let the guests know ahead of time to avoid any disappointments. the average person wouldn't be expecting a vegan menu, & might be looking forward to the standard beef blah blah.

And i'm saying this as politely as possible, from someone who has been around many vegetarians and vegans

other than that, the menu sounds great. very innovative!!

g'luck!

Our Menu: (Note: I will make the wording much nicer on the menus)
Salad: Tri-colored salad, sliced pear, dried cranberries, candied walnuts w/ raspberry vinegarette

Entree, choice of:
1. Pumpkin Ravioli (spinach pasta with pumpkin filling and a light miso sauce)
2. Stuffed Butternut Squash (Oven roasted squash filled with vegetables, served over rice)
3. Moroccan Stew (Root vegetables cooked in Moroccan spices, served over a vegetable cous cous)

Dessert:
Wedding cake
Chocolate fountain w/ fruit and pretzels (my mother is extatic)

POLL: What entree would you choose?

Edited to add Cocktail Hour:
Passed hors d'oeuvres
Mashed Potato Bar
Pasta station
Wok station
Cold Italian station
Mediterrenian station
Crudite

That sounds so delicious! FH and I are so jealous!

Absolutely seconded. So, there's no meat... big deal!

Honestly, telling a vegan that she should have meat at her wedding to 'accomodate' her guests is like telling a Hindu to serve beef. It goes against their beliefs, end of story. Veganism for most people isn't just a dietary choice, it's a lifestyle and a belief system.

It's certainly valid to say 'those are a little exotic for me... perhaps you should consider adding something like a plain pasta with a simple sauce of some kind,' but suggesting she add meat is just flat out rude.

As for me... I'd go with #1! Tough choice though.... they all sound delicious!

Ok i'm sure i'll get yelled at for this one... but i dont believe you should force your beliefs on others, end of story. In my honest opinion, i would not eat at your wedding. I'm not trying to be rude or mean, but those choices do not appeal to me at all and i am a picky eater. I just think that maybe you should have an alternative for your guests that does include a meat.

Look... my mom went to a vegan wedding a few months back and she said some not nice things. I mean you're guests are spending money to come to the wedding, to give you a gift, and then to not even give them a good meal (which i'm not saying anything bad about vegans or that vegan food isn't good... what i am saying is that not everyone likes vegan food)... i just know that some of your guests will not be happy. This wedding my mom went to, she said no one touched the food and everyone was in the bar area at another section ordering burgers, fries, or pizzas. I'm just saying that you might want to think about your selection. I get that these are your beliefs and you want to stick by them. Good! But your forcing your beliefs on others and that's not fair. Just a thought. i'm sorry if you get offended by this.

I would def. order #1 or #2. They both sound very good. I am a vegetarian, my FH is a meat eater who I got into vegetarian/vegan dishes, which he loves!! I think you should keep your menus as is. As someone said earlier, maybe you can add that it is a vegan reception somewhere on the invite (reception) card, just so that everyone will know what to expect. In my own personal life 'meat eaters' seem to always have a problem with me being a vegetarian, hehe even though I do not promote others to become vegetarians. Alot of my friends and family members where scared to eat tofu dishes that I have made in the past, but once they got over their fears and ate it, they loved it.. I wish i could have a vegetarian wedding, but my hall does not provide this option.

# 1 or 3..
Are they really your entrees ?
I am Italian and if I served them those things
(which I like by the way) I would literally never hear the end of it.
Especially all the guests coming from Italy.,.

You can take it as being talked down to if that is how you interpret it - however, consider the tone of your own post to me and reread mine again. Because if you read my post CAREFULLY, I did NOT say that you attacked her nor did I say that you disrespected her. In addition, if you read her post, you'll see that she DID NOT ask for what we think should she should include in addition to her choices. And I see nothing wrong in pointing that out.
