Re: is this messed up or what??
it can seem 'mean' on their part, but maybe that month is when they wanted it and just didn't want to wait a whole year. i know, why didn't they get engaged sooner??....but you can't get too mad at them...it's not like they are getting married the week you are or something. some people don't see the issue either...they see a cousin getting married and consider that you will only share some guests, not all. now, if it were a sibling, that would be another story... some people also don't understand (no matter how many weddings they see planned before them) how much work goes into it and how much time it typically takes. each wedding will be different and this will not take away from yours. try not to be too upset....and i wouldn't tell them that they can't/shouldn't get married then...that might be what works for them and who are we to judge??

Have they found a place yet to get married in August? It might end up being a non-issue because they may not be able to find a place!

I think you should just be happy for them! Nothing is going to ruin your Wedding unless you let it.

Your wedding is your wedding, and their wedding is their wedding. They are two totally separate events. Be happy for them. My question is how do you plan a wedding in three months?

I was thinking the same thing. Three months is tough!
It won't take away from your wedding, your day will still be as special and as perfect as it would've been otherwise!

There is no way the wedding of two selfish people who obviously don't give a hoot about others is going to ruin yours. Besides, do you really think they are going to be able to find a catering hall to have an all out LI wedding between now and then?

This definately will not ruin your wedding! 2 months is plenty of time for even out of town guests to get to both. Try not to stress too much
ETA: Is she getting married in 3 months from getting engaged?

I can see where you would be upset..but it is really something that you have no control of. I don't think anyone has the right to tell them that they can't do it. Just let it go, your wedding will be beautiful! At least it is not in the same month!!!

It won't ruin your wedding! The same thing happened with my sister-in-law and my cousin. Things just always seem to happen at the same time. And it seem like a big deal now, but it won't be. Your day is going to be special because it's YOUR day, just like her day will be hers.

Dont let their plans ruin your special day. Your day will be yours and theirs will be theirs. I would suggest that perhaps you keep your planning / ideas to yourself though to avoid any 'copy cat' problems. Look at it from a positive point....use their wedding as a guide for what you do and dont want at your own wedding.

Re: is this messed up or what??
One of my BM, who is getting married in June 2007 just called me last night to vent b/c a good friend of hers just proposed to his GF and they are having a may 2007 wedding. So my BM is mad b/c the day he did it, she asked him to please not get married before her, well he called to tell her that his GF decided she wanted to anyway (truthfully i met the girl and FH and I didnt like her- no point just thought i would say it LOL) but i honestly dont think its a big deal b/c they dont have that many of the same friends. If it was family though then I could see her getting upset. I think that nothing will take away from your special day

Re: is this messed up or what??
i was in a similar situation with my brother and his fi. they decided to get married 2 months before me and they decided this about a week after i booked my hall. its like they just had to do it first, ya know? i was very upset when i first found out...but it all worked out. to avoid drama, i suggest being supportive of each other's happiness bc planning is a special and exciting time! i wouldnt share details of your wedding so ther are no hurt feelings if she wants to do something you are doing---at least you wont feel like its on purpose (for example, if you have a unique style to the skirt of your dress and she just has to have her flowergirl wear the same style dress as YOU! lol things like this will happen, just try not to overreact). try not to let it become a competition...push away those thoughts of 'what can i do to make my day stand out more?!?' and concentrate on what you can do to make your day the most special day for you and your fh. everything will work out! good luck~lacey
