Us under our chuppah. It was suspended from heavy cables and there were no poles. There does not have to be poles, just a covering with all four sides open:

this is an interesting thread... very imformative! i'm lutheran but fh is jewish so we're having an interfaith ceremony (though neither of us is too hardcore about organized religion. we feel it's more of a personal choice. strangely enough my pastor hates it too ) anyways, i don't know much about the ceremonies involved (esp since my church has hardly any), so this seems like a good place to get some insight. =0) hope you don't mind me looking around. =0P
