Re: Ronkonkoma Area
It depends on what you like. I live near Ronkonkoma (in Nesconset), and my DH and I hate it here. IMO it is lower class. Hope I don't offend anyone, but there are trailer parks in Ronkonkoma.HTH

Re: Ronkonkoma Area
See that bothers me but it's not our forever house! we plan on living in it for 5-10 years and then renting it out and moving into our forever house...I know some parts of Ronkonkoma are not so nice and I thought some were...I didn't know if you could tell by school district...Sachem vs. connetquot if it was the better area....

Well be offended, but she asked about the area. I live off of Townline and we don't like the area, when someone asks a question, don't be offended when someone else offers their opinion.

Re: Ronkonkoma Area
Uh yeah, there is a trailer park that happens to be a pretty run down trailer park. But that certainly does NOT represent the area and it's not near most of the residential area. And I don't think that all of the areas that are near Portion Rd. are bad. I don't live in Ronkonkoma but I've had a business in Ronkonkoma for 5 yrs. My DH wanted something closer to friends and family and closer to the city. We moved to a town that does have more snob appeal, but Ronkonkoma is a second home to me. I've been all over the area, at all hours of the day and night. It's not the richest neighborhood but it's not a place you'd pass through and say 'eew, trailer parks, forget it.'

when you have to say 'i hope I dont offend anyone', maybe next time do it via FM so you dont have to subject the rest of us to your narrowmindedness.

Re: Ronkonkoma Area
I didn't post this question to start offending anyone...I appreciate everyone's honest opinions...and everyone has differ opinions on different areas....We shouldn't get upset by others comments it's only an opinion and everyone is entitled to there own.

Re: Ronkonkoma Area
Ronkonkoma is very large! Townline Rd is 3 exits away from my parents house which is also in Ronkonkoma. In every neighborhood you have better and worse parts. In garden city - a very nice neighborhood, is right next to Hempstead a really crappy neighborhood (which unfortunately I happen to live in so I can say without getting anyone offended LOL) From personal experience, go look at what ever house you want to rent or buy several times - during the day - at night, during rain and sunshine. I saw my apt one time during a rainstorm and loved it and paid for it on the spot. I thought, since it was right near Hofstra that it wasn't too bad. I was wrong and unfortunately, now I am stuck here for another year b/c I signed a 2 year lease. So - anywhere you go, there will be nice areas and not so nice. My parents live off Patchogue Holbrook Road by Hiawatha and it is a nice area but you go a couple blocks and its not so nice. Just look and investigate the areas.

Re: Ronkonkoma Area
There are always good areas and bad areas in a town. We live on long Island, that's how it is here. I live in a town that has alot of controversy surrounding it and I love my neighborhood! If you drive 5 mins down the road ...maybe not so nice. If you find a house that you love in a good part of town and a couple of mins down the road it may be a 'bad ' part of town....just know it is pretty much like there everywhere you go
Good Luck !

Re: Ronkonkoma Area
Ronkonkoma is huge and the type of neighborhood can vary from 659,000 Victorians to 299,000 'starter homes'. I would take a look at the neighborhood to see if it is what you desire. Just to let you know...both Connetqat (sp?) and Sachem are great School districts and imo that means a lot!! P.S. I grew up in Ronkonkoma and I love it! We will likely buy a house there as well when the time comes!!!
