Re: Cancer caused by a virus?

there is no test for men - they are just carriers.

this is an STD - but so much more like a virus. your body will eventually build immunity to it. monogomy helps to keep HPV @ bay. only your doctor will tell you if you should get vaccinated or not - ask her about it.

please check out this site - its VERY important that you talk to your doctor about this

yes, HPV is an STD but you can get it from any kind of contact and so many people have it and dont know for years and they can spread it then!

hpv vaccine

they are thinking about making it part of the vaccine schedule for all girls at age 12, it is that important

Re: Cancer caused by a virus?

I'll come out of the closet here....

I have/had HPV (I came up negative the past few paps for it.) I am one of millions and millions of people here on LI alone.

My OBGYN told me that HPV does NOT cause cancer!

It is connected to cervical cancer because it makes you have abnormal paps - so its almost like crying wolf. If you always have abnormal paps, then its hard to tell if you have an abnormal pap because of cancer cells, or because of the HPV. So, you have to go for paps more often to make sure the dysplasia is the same as it was - the problem is, the dysplasia always changes, so you have to go all the friggin time if this happens... its a pain in the @ss.....

The vaccine will not protect you from all HPV strains (I sound like the commercial)

If you are married and faithful, and neither of you are testing for HPV, dont do it....

They are pushing this vaccine like heroin, and its really annoying me.....

It's very hard to test men. They cannot 'host' the virus since their 'genitalia' is external vs. women. They only way for men to test positive is for them to be tested after being infected AND NOT wash. That's how it is transmitted usually. They go from one partner to another and don't clean up!!!

HPV has an effect on actual cells and cells become abnormal resulting into an abnormal pap smear. They then do a colposcopy and maybe a biopsy to make sure the cells change is not cancerous.

It can be dormant for years then show up years later. It is very hard to know which partner infected you.

There are many strain of HPV. One of them is Genital Warts. Many people also go undetected for years and never noticed them especially if they are not raised and internal.

Since HPV is a virus it goes in and out of your body all the time. You could have many PAP and never detect it.

Not always - it can be transmitted just from any sexual contact - even with a condom....

I never did it with an unwashed man - ick!!!
