Re: I am pretty livid right now with my company..

I honestly have to say I would not expect a card or arrangement at all if it was technically not my own family member.

I would only expect that protocol to be followed if it were (god forbid!) your husband, mother, father, or direct siblings.

Sorry- I dont agree with you on this but i do feel for you and offer my sympathies for your loss.

Re: I am pretty livid right now with my company..

when dh called his boss after my grandmother passed away, he sorta had a hard time. he called him on a sunday saying he can't leave me alone. he couldn't understand why he needed to be home both days. at the end of the conversion, he offered his sympathies. when dh went back to work, he spoke to his boss about the conversation. his boss felt embarrased/terrible about how he reacted. he apologized to dh. i guess heach company does things differently

did they at least offer there sympathies

I'm sorry you had to go through that, but unfortunately like JP said above - bereavement leave is allowed for immediate family only - parents, siblings, grandparents. When my uncle passed away in November, I had to take a week w/out pay.

Your DH's grandmother is not considered a blood relative.

I'm sorry again for your loss.
