Re: Funny but...
you are very lucky. i was only told this by the place where i get my eye exam/contacts, so i shouldn't have listened to them. maybe if i go to a lasic doctor... that must be a great feeling! when i take my lenses out everything is very blurry too and i know what its like worrying about not wearing contacts in water although when you dive everything is magnified underwater so you can still see but I get your point lol. all the best!

Pepper...
Where did you get it done? I am really interested in this. I can't seem to get used to contacts and I don't want to wear glasses for the rest of my life! If you don't mind me asking how much did you spend? I know the costs have gone down a lot in the past few years. If you don't want to post all the info please email me at [email protected]. thanks so much. -Michele
'I SEE!,' said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw! (lol-OK that was a pretty lame joke, but I couldn't resist! ) Seriously though, that's awesome! I'm too scared of it myself. My FFIL had it done and is having problems, especially at night. He sees 'halos' around lights, etc...

Re: I can SEE!!!!
Jennbaby.... I would definitely see another 'regular' eye doctor before seeing a LASIK specialist. If he/she still says you are not a candidate...DO NOT GET THE SURGERY!! There are some people who just cannot get LASIK done to their eyes and if they do, it can cause MAJOR side effects (blurry vision, halos, light sensitivity) all of which are permanent and cannot be reversed. I don't want to scare you but I was going to have it done and when I saw and talked to people that had a bad result I chickened out. I am so glad that it has worked for other people but for me I'll hang with the glasses until they come up with a procedure that is reversable if they screw it up!! Best of luck whatever you decide!

Re: I can SEE!!!!
pepper - that's great! I had it done about 5 years ago at what was 20/20 laser center - I think it is now TLC. I went to the one in Garden City by the mall. Is that where you went? Who was your doctor? For everyone else who is thinking about it - I had great results. I had had really bad eyesight. I hated it cause when I woke up in the morning, I couldn't even see my alarm clock next to my head. My FI used make faces at me and couldn't understand how I couldn't see what he was doing from a foot away (he has perfect vision). As soon as I stood up after the surgery and was walking out, he stuck his tounge out at me and I was like 'I can see what you're doing!' It was so cool. But, you need to be sure to go to a reputable, EXPERIENCED doctor. My doctor was Dr. Donnenfeld (not sure if he is still there). I was referred to him by my regular eye doctor (who I think is awesome) because he said Dr. Donnenfeld had been doing it for a long time and had done it many times. Anyway, at 5 years out, I still have great vision. It is not 20/20 but I don't wear glasses at all. The dr. said I could get them for driving at night if I wanted but he didn't think it was really necessary. I am so glad I did it. Anyway, if anyone has questions, besides pepper, you can ask me too if you want. It really is truly amazing!

Re: TLC
Oh, I am so jealous...I want to get the surgery so bad, but it's just not in my budget right now . But one day I will definately get it. When I take my contacts out I can't see anything!!
I'm so glad it worked out well for you.

Re: TLC
I would second the cautionary message to see your eye doctor before getting the surgery. My FH is an optometrist, and Lasik is not for everyone. If you do not get the OK from your doc, it can do more harm than good. Also, make sure you get a good recommendation from your optometrist or an opthomalogist, since there are a lot of shady places doing the surgery. If you read (in detail) what is involved in Lasik (I have been exposed to all the gory details-ugh!) you will know why you want to make sure you have only the best dr. cutting into your eyes. Best of luck to all of you considering it!

Re: The Procedure
I admit, I am a bit squeamish, and (thanks to FH medical textbooks) have seen blow by blow pics of it-thats what I meant by all the gory details. There is a part of the surgery where they slice your eye, then lift the flap made to laser your eye. That gets me every time! I personally do not wear glasses every day, but have friends that do and have gotten lasik done through recommended doctors. All rave about the difference, so I say go for it- as long as you have a good doctor doing it.

Re: The Procedure
Pepper,
I have seriously thought about doing this, but I'm getting married Oct. 13th and I'm afraid it's too close (although, looks like you are 1 week after me!) I'm just paranoid that some freaky thing will happen and I'll be blind walking down the aisle!
Did they do both eyes, or one?
I guess I'm better off waiting until after the wedding and saying 'I wish I got it done sooner' rather than do it before and stress.
Best of luck to you and now you can throw away those glasses! Yippee!
