Just showed up.
We met at a college party and didn't get serious until after we graduated.

He and I actually met on a blind date. We were set up by friends. I wasn't really looking for a relationship at the time, I had gotten out of a 5-year relationship a few months prior. But he was the one for me.

I was in another relationship at the time - so I definitely wasn't looking for anyone. However, I was working at Staples and he started a few months after me and I just fell in love the moment I laid eyes on him. I broke up with my boyfriend and within a week I was dating him. I know it sounds terrible, but it worked out for the best. I'm actually very good friends with the guy I dumped for FH!

I was looking, quite definitely. I met him through an online personal ad. I tried the 'falling my lap' thing for a long time, and only jerks ever just happened along. The last time I 'just happened' to meet a decent guy was in grad school. Universities are a great place for that. But once you're out...I'm very glad I started looking in earnest, because I doubt I'd be getting married now otherwise!

I was just enjoying sophomore year of college... and met the kid who was always late to class at a frat party! I had no idea he was the one!

I wasn't really looking for anyone at all! I was 18 and enjoying the independence of being in college, and he showed up, we hit it off, and that was it. Never expected to meet 'the one' at that point in my life.

Ditto- I was 17 and just out of high school. We met in the parking lot of our summer jobs!

One might say signing up for match.com would mean I was looking for 'the one,' but honestly, I just wanted to go on more dates. I NEVER thought I'd meet the man I would eventually marry.

I agree! I had spent over a year dating a bunch of 'ehhh ok' guys, so I signed up for Match. I figured if they had to answer all those questions, they have to have a good head on their shoulders. FH was the second person I met, I really wasn't expecting to meet the man I would spend the rest of my life with via email!

Yahoo personals here! I wasnt even expecting to meet anyone. But I saw his page - he was the only person i actually initiated the conversation with!

same here I was on 'dreammates.com' and he found me! and I knew within the first date he was different from anyone I had ever met

I was definitely not looking... I went away for a weekend b/c I needed to get away. I wanted some alone time, far from looking for a date or anything. And he was at the same place I was staying at - he was with co-workers. I thought he'd make a nice friend, but he asked me out and I agreed since he seemed fun to talk to. It was like the date that never ended...

After a lot of bad or so-so boyfriends I tried the Yahoo personals and found FH. Something about him struck my eye and I couldn't wait for him to write me back. We met a few days later and I felt a connection with him that I had never felt before.

I met my FH through someone who I was dating, so no, I wasn't really looking! My ex and I were on the train going to a Slayer show in Manhattan and he saw someone he grew up with get on the train. He went over to him and asked if he wanted to sit with us because he was going to the same show. Well, that guy was my FH and the moment we layed eyes on each other, there was an instant connection and the rest is history!!

I saw him at the gym and thought he was hot. He was married. I was in a relationship for 6 years. I didn't see him at the gym for a few months and then I changed gyms. He was at the NEW gym. He said 'What are you doing here?' I said 'Oh, my boyfriend and I just broke up and I didn't feel like seeing him at the gym' He said 'Oh, I just got separated and we're getting a divorce. We should go out for coffee and commiserate.' So we did. He said before he even really met me he knew I was the girl for him. He needed to convince me, though… I made him work for it.

great story! Glad your endings turned out to be such great beginnings!!

i was 15 and he was 16 when we met - i dont think either one of us was looking for love.
This probably sounds wierd and/or cheesy but i had a feeling that he was 'the one' after we dated for like 2 months. I'm glad cause i couldn't be happier right now

I was not looking for anyone. I had broken up with my boyfriend and was single for the first time in four years. I was loving the single life and then he came along!

Re: Were you looking for 'the one' or did he just show up?

I think on some level we are always seeking ‘The One’ – we may not be ACTIVELY seeking – but somewhere inside you really want that person that you click with.

I remember that for a while I was SO intent on finding a ‘soul mate’ that I would desperately try to make anyone that I liked and who liked me back into the man of my dreams. Didn’t matter if he treated me like crap or if I really didn’t care for him too much… I WANTED someone to be with forever.

Then one day I just let go of the idea of finding that perfect man and decided to have fun. I started dating FH with no real expectations. I remember being REALLY worried about how crazy he made me feel inside. I had just started to feel okay with the idea of maybe being alone forever and suddenly this guy is in my life and he has me thinking about the rest of my life! I wondered if I was falling back into my old habit of overreaching – trying to make something out of nothing. I kept pushing him away – every reason I could find. I had surgery and told him he didn’t have to come visit me. He came everyday and stayed the entire time. I had another surgery and he came every day and brought games and pizza. My father was dying and he came to the hospital with me to visit every chance he had. When my father died he was there every step. Then I got pregnant. And I wasn’t sure what to do. He didn’t like kids. He called them ‘money sucking screamboxes”. I was paralyzed with fear and indecision when he told me that he wanted the baby. That we would be great parents and that he really believed we would be together forever.

And that is when I began to breathe.

I was definitely not looking. I got out of a crazy on again, off again, engaged twice almost married relationship and decided to just partty for 3 years and then consider relationships.
Almost two years later I was at a club with my girls, just like every weekend, and i met fh.
I knew we had a real connection but kept trying to play it off because i still had a year left to party.
We kept getting closer and closer and then i got pregnant and he told me that he knew from the night we met that God had destined us to be together. And the rest is history!

He just fell in my lap. I wasn't looking for love. I was only 15 years old and he was not my type and we were friends for a year before we started dating. And here I am now
