We are blocking 30 I think. My family and friends are from SI and also many are flying in from other places.

I just did my room block last week and here's how it went: I booked 10 rooms for the night before, and 35 rooms for the night of. FH's family and friends are all local, while my guests are coming from either the city, Westchester, CT, NJ, or further. Out of the 35 rooms, I have to guarantee 15. If only 10 rooms are booked over those two nights, I have to pay for the other 5. HOWEVER - if all 35 rooms book up for the night of the wedding, and addt'l guests call to reserve the room, they will not get the group rate - I cannot extend it. The sales person told me to book more than I need, and then drop them a month before. There is a booking deadline of 4/2, a month b4 the wedding.
My sister is in the hotel biz and said this is all very standard. HTH!!
