How many rooms are you planning to block -vs- how many people do you plan to invite?
I only blocked 20 (the most I could do with out a financial commitment), but I’m nervous that isn’t enough. We are inviting 225 (although, that will grow…) with about 50-70 out of state invites.
Inviting 300; still growing.
I booked 20., my frends are 'drinkers'

Re: Hotel Blocking Question...
Of the 50-70 out of state people, do they all need hotel rooms? Or are some of the people families that will use one room?

Re: Hotel Blocking Question...
We went through our list of out-of-towners and made an estimate of who we thought would stay over and who we thought may share rooms. The hotel we were looking into had a policy of having to fill 75% of the commitment you make. In other words say we committed to 100 rooms we have to fill 75...if we only fill 60 we have to pay the addtl 15. It really depends on their policy. Wen are doing a few differnet places in order to give people price options...some can swing $200 some would be better suited at $150-ish. Hope that helps you...good luck!

Re: Hotel Blocking Question...
i blocked 20 rooms and i would be surprised if even 5 filled up!
our only OOT people are staying with family so it would only be for a few people that dont want to drive!

Of the OOS invites, they are couples. So, if every single one of them came, that is 25-35 rooms right there. And our friends are drinkers too!
I think i need more...
I would ask them if they need hotel accomodations. If it looks like you 100% need 20 rooms, I would block off 10 more just in case. Often times hotels will let you hold extras until 2 weeks before the event and they start giving out the rooms you don't need to other guests. Also see if some friends are willing to stay together in a room to cut their cost. You never know, some might say yes.

Re: Hotel Blocking Question...
We could only block 20 a night max. I am having 210 guests with about 50% from OOT. They say have your guests book early and they can increase the block once 10 rooms are booked, so all my definetes I'm telling to book right away so I can get more rooms!

Re: Hotel Blocking Question...
I didn't have to pay to hold the room but if I block 20 I have to fill 70% of the rooms, If I don't I am obligated to pay for them myself!

Re: Hotel Blocking Question...
It makes sense if you have 20 rooms set aside that they can't sell because you're holding them and then you don't fill them, I totally understand. I don't think I'll run into that problem as all of FH's family and friend is from OOT and has never even been to Long Island before!

Re: Hotel Blocking Question...
I blocked 50 rooms. My list of people keeps growing. When I tell everyone we are having a bar party at the hotel after the reception they are now all staying at the hotel even if they live 5 minutes away..lol

Re: Hotel Blocking Question...
We do not have to pay for the rooms that are not purchased. We have 30 rooms blocked. Some good info that one of the managers share with me. If a hotel asks for your credit card when you do a room block that means that they will charge you for the rooms that do not get booked. That is the best info that they gave us. I hope that we helped you out.
