This is a tough decision.
Personally, I would not take a pay cut that big. My current employer asked me to take a huge pay cut and I refused. We actually went back and forth for months about it until I finally got them up to a salary that was only slightly less than what I was making previously--I really wanted to work at this company!
I understand that it's your dream job, but you also have to weigh your options. NY is VERY expensive and it's hard to get by on $40K. I would send out lots of resumes because it seems like you are well-educated and have great experience, so many companies will want to hire you. Don't be so quick to leave without really thinking about it. This isn't a decision that you can make in one day. Also talk it over with FH because ultimately, your decision to take a pay cut if you choose will affect him.

I would say go for it - If it's something you have always wanted to do, then you need to do it. It made be hard at first but im sure FH would help you along the way, also after some time at your new job you can always talk about a raise. Good luck, and I hope everything works out for you.

I think you should stay where you are for now. Money is a hugely important thing for starting your life together, and you will have the rest of that life to be with FH. NY is expensive and if for any reason you weren't happy at the job you would be really upset because of the pay cut. I think having this stability will help in the long run even though it makes you sad to be away from FH. JMO!

Wow- thats a big pay cut- did you try negotiating or are they final on that salary? You could always start there and get experience and in a year try and get something better. If its what you always wanted to do and FH is here then try and make it work.
