Re: What's the most valuable wedding planning advice or help you've gotten?

The best advice I have received is not to listen to ANYONE during the wedding process/planning and do/have whatever you want for your wedding.

it's been said a BILLION times...and the reason it's always said, is because if you do take it to heart, it is one of the most valuable things you can remember on your wedding day:

'Don't sweat the small stuff!'

there is no better piece of advice IMO.

Don't let anyone tell you how to do something for your wedding. If they want to pay for it, THEN they can have an opinion.

Also, when people ask how much your wedding is costing you, ask, 'Why do you want to know, are you going to contribute?' That was the best way to ignore rude people about how much your wedding is costing.

Also, go with your gut feeling on all the major decisions, and when it comes down to the wedding day, don't worry about anything, and just have fun.

Hire a wedding planner.

I didn't think I needed one and then decided to do it anyway and I couldn't be happier

Dont listen to anyone....do what makes you happy...and remember...its not about the 'Wedding' it is about the 'marriage' and not to lose sight of that when getting caught up in all the little insignificant details of the day.

I can’t tell you how many people asked me how much the site fee is at Oheka! When I tell them my FH and I are keeping the info to ourselves……they try to guess how much!!!

This is when I walk away!
I think from now on if someone asks me this question I’ll ask them for a contribution first and if they want to help pay for it, I’ll tell them how much!

Thanks!

I have to say someone on here wrote something to the effect to consider your guests, if your guests are not happy then you are not happy.

Before I was listening to the hype 'its your wedding', do what you want....

But its not me and FH..its me , FH, and our families..and I have just taken other people into consideration.

I got so sick of people asking how much it was costing, so I would say, how much should I put you down for, and take out a paper and pen. People are just so rude, and it is none of their business. Our parents were amazed at the people that would have the audacity to ask.

Why all of the advice on the Official 2007 'Already Married Brides' thread

But seriously, the best advice was something I read on here. Take time at the reception to look around and soak it allll in. Its the first and last time all of these people will be in the same room!

One piece of advice that I heard that was great was...

'spend the money on the things that last beyond the day...photo, rings etc.'

When I get to my craziest moments I also remember....

'My wedding day is the beginning of the rest of my life'.... in the sense that I think we brides sometimes get so Over-detailed about the ceremony and reception that we forget that the wedding is not the end product- It is just the beginning.

don't sweat the small stuff ! NOTHING matters that day except you have a great time with the love of your life and friends/family

My grandmother told me to grow a thick skin, because everyone and anyone will give you their opinion even when it's not asked for and you may hate what they say, but learn to deal with it.

Go grandma!

So far: 'try party city for invites'.
They really are MUCH cheaper.

Oh: and 'people will ALWAYS complain'.

I'd have to second that one. I've noticed that since FH and I got engaged EVERYONE puts their two cents in and I have to keep reminding myself (dad does too!) that its FH and my wedding and as much as everyone has their opinions its OUR day.
