Wow, I am so sorry to hear that. IMO I think you should try your best to keep your wedding date. You've done so much already! What kind of work are you looking for??

Yes, what kind of work are you looking for? I can understand that a long distance marriage wouldn't be ideal - but 5 months is still a long time to find a job!

Hang in there...

You should post your resume on monster.com or careerbuilder.com or just simply look through those sites. What exactly are you looking for? Don't worry, you'll find something

I live in VA and FH lives in NY. I have been searching for a job on LI so that I can move up there before the wedding. I haven't had much luck. Unfortuantely, FH isn't in a place where I can move in with him. Nor is he in a position where he can move down to VA. Basically, my moving to NY is entirely based on my finding a job that pays reasonably.

Our wedding is five months away and FH refuses to have a long distance marriage (even if just temporary). So, last night, he suggested postponing the wedding. All of the wedding plans are nearly finalized, so I am totally bummed. We'd probably lose some of our down payments, and I'd have to start all over again securing dates, etc.

I have an application in at one place that seems promising, but if that doesn't go through, I may become an 2008 bride.

I'm totally stressed out right now.

What do you do? My company is looking for an admin with construction background/architecture/legal. The position may be either full or part time depending on your experience FM me. P.S. It is in Mid town Manhattan.

Im so sorry you are going trhough this, keep the faith and be positive, you have to feel like you have the job already. Think like you have to start packing and even purchase the 'I have moved' cards. Believe me its the power of visualization that will get you the job you are looking for.

By the way try Craigslist (go to the Long Island section). Good luck, keep us posted!

I've had my resume on Monster for 8 months now. I've applied to 18 jobs, and only heard back from one. I got that job offer, but the salary was ridiculously low so I just couldn't accept it. I have just applied for a position at Stony Brook University and am really hoping that will work. The position looks like it was written just for me. So PLEASE PLEASE send me all your good luck. I really need it.

SB is a great place!!!!! Here's hoping you get the job!

Hey I work at Stony Brook University. Good Luck. I hope you get it. Always keep an eye on their site http://naples.cc.sunysb.edu/Admin/CampusJob.nsf They are always hiring. Take a job here even if it is lower paying because SBU is hard to get into but very easy to move up in.

PS don't move your wedding date.

Thanks for the suggestions? Do you mind if I ask what you do at Stony Brook? FM me if you'd prefer? I could use all the inside tips I can get.

Also, someone suggested using Craigs List. I'm not familiar with it and haven't used it before. But I'll certainly give it a try.

you have FM

Wow.... I hope this all works out. Five months is a long time to find a job. What field are you in maybe some of us can help you out. I can't see a bride postponing her wedding for this.

My old college roomate is a recruiter for marketing/advertising careers. If you can give a more specific job title, I'd be able to ask her if she is aware of any openings. She mostly staffs for NYC. Also, my FMIL works at Stony Brook. Do you know what department you're applying in?

I've been at the same company for over 11 years and during that time, my job has become quite specific to this particular company, making it hard to move elsewhere.

I manage a multimedia dept. So I do web development, graphic design, database administration, vendor contracts, executive administration, and budget/office management. I'm a jack of all trades.

Keep your fingers crossed that this last job works out, but if not, does anyone know of reputable head hunter companies?

Also, how long should I hold out before making a decision to postpone the wedding? I think our time may be running out on that.

My Dad was laid off a while back and had some success using a service...jobsbyfax.com. I'm not exactly sure what they do, but do remember that after he used them, he was getting calls for interviews quite often. He still raves about them. I'm sure there's more info on the website. Good luck!
