Re: Questions from a Newbie
The Bourne Mansion in Oakdale is really nice. And off the back is an area where you can take pics with the ocean in the background. Not sure that you can get on the beach, but from inside the view was amazing!

I wanted to be on the water as well...We got married at Lands End...and I am very happy with the decision...but if you want something a little different there are places...
does it have to be ocean? there is coindre hall in huntington..
I really like the atlantica, but no sat night weddings in the summer (lets not mention that I got married on a sunday...)
there is the pavillion at sunken meadow beach...but it is a bit casual...

Re: Questions from a Newbie
There's yacht clubs throughout Huntington, Huntington Bay, and Northport. May want to check them out.Vanderbilt Mansion in Centerport? (One drawback is the brick courtyard. I was concerned that some of my guests would get their heels caught and trip.)
Thatched Cottage?

Jenny-you're too funny!BeachBride-here's the link to the maritime museum:
http://www.limaritime.org/
It costs $1,000.00 to rent the property 2 years ago (I don't know if the price went up)-you got full use of the property, a tent and use of the museum. They also have 2 large gazebos on the property-my sister used one to have the food set up and the other for dancing.
Let me know if you want more info!!

Re: Questions from a Newbie
Oooh!! I had another though--check out the Crow's Nest Resort in Montauk too. They have these beach party things after the wedding and weekend wedding packages. I went to a wedding there--it was a blast! I checked it out for my own wedding but also thought it might be too much to ask everyone to drive out there.Ooh!! You could get married at the lighthouse!!
Here's the Crow's Nest site:

Re: Questions from a Newbie
Beachbride, you are living out my ultimate wedding fantasy. i too tried to find exactly what you are looking for but it was too overwhelming (that was before I found LIWeddings.com). in the end, we are doing it at the Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling (which is much more traditional and formal than we wanted, but a lovely compromise for my mother and not too formal - worth seeing)Have you already checked out the Oldfield Club in Stony Brook?
Also, not sure where you are coming from, but I have heard that people have done it by the water at the Oldfield Lighthouse (very cool and different). A friend of mine had the perfect wedding under a tent on the water in Oldfield, but that was at her parents house and private beach
Perhaps you could rent someone's house for the day (doesn't have to be a mansion, just someplace with a nice beach and yard!!) Good luck. With the help of this site you will be able to do it!

Re: Questions from a Newbie
JoRo-your friend's wedding sounds like it was perfect!I've been digging through some of my old stuff-
Some more suggestions if you're not looking to go to a catering hall.
We were seriously considering renting a tent-2 places we found on the north shore in Suffolk (on the water) were Sunwood in Stony Brook. It's owned by SUNY Stony Brook. It's a mansion right on the water and I believe it just reopened after being re-furbished.
Another was the Old Field Farm- 631-246-8983. The farm is all these old stables with these big meadow areas-it's right on the water and you could probably put a tent up there.
Another possiblity-the Neighborhood House in Setauket. Here's their site: http://www.threevillagehistoricalsociety.org/nh-house.html
Let me know if you want more info!
