i am really sorry that you are having to deal with this...since you got the courage to ask them, how do you feel about saying that the money would be a lot more useful before the wedding...as long as they are not financially struggling, I think that is okay to do, especially since they had said they would...so would you consider this? could it be that they really dont know you could use the help now instead of later?

Re: sorry long vent

I'd suggest talking to your parents in person. Both of your parents, and not your FH. This is how we did it because neither of us really wanted to be put in an awkward position. I would lay it on the table and say what you've been saying here--that you'd appreciate some help before the wedding, if they could provide it and explain why it needs to be before the wedding. I think you should talk to your mom at the same time, because it could just be your dad being clueless, offering you the money ahead of time.

And, although you sound like you really do know this, keep in your mind when you meet with your parents that they aren't obligated to help you with expenses, it would just be REALLY nice. (I know they promised, but if they reneg on that, going in with a good attitude can minimize hurt on both ends...)

Good luck, hopefully it can be cleared up with an honest, face to face conversation. I think a lot of people have parents who were vague on how much the contributions would be and when they would come. Sitting down and getting it all out there will hopefully help both you and your parents.

Re: sorry long vent

can you think of anything that could have taken place that would have caused this change in plans for them? it seems strange only b/c they sound like they said several times how they planned on helping...i'm sorry

I think that maybe if you word it differently... ask them if they are able to help you out with some of the pre-wedding expenses... just flat out ask if they can give you money... don't ask if they know what they'll be able to give you... KWIM?

That's what I was wondering... or is any reason why they might not seem interested in the wedding planning or might not want to participate? I really think you should talk to them in person about this.

I'm so sorry date twin!

i agree to what was said above Jenise. I think trying to talk to them in person will work best. be honest and sweet about it.. Also i would bring up how you feel (that they always talked about being part of your wedding and helping to pay for the wedding and you feel like they arent that into it.) show your emotion and how it is making you feel. like someone else said - they are not obligated to pay but it would be really nice for them to help out.

GL hun, i know this is a tough situation to be it

I am so sorry Jenise. I read through every ones responses and I have to say, maybe just ask your mom to be more involved in planning,, not so much the money part of it. But more about details and fun things. Maybe then she will see how much it means to have them a part of this day!

Hi Month Twins!

Yeah talk to them in person. I had to talk to my mom because she was exhibiting the same behavior. I found that she felt bad because although it appears that she could help, she has all kinds of bills and is almost in debt.

So she decided to just not be involved because she felt bad. In the beginning, she came w/ me to pick out my dress and asked for our website. But now that the big bills are rolling in, she really needs to pay her own.
Your parents maybe in a better situation and just may not understand-that's why I think to lay it out would be great...If not, then loans may be the answer...But first, I suggest talking.
