I hate it! I get overwhelmed sometimes...but we agreed not to look into houses until about 6 months after the wedding- this way we dont have to drive ourselves too crazy

we're just taking everything one step at a time since we are 1000% alone in paying for the wedding. We have the big things out of the way like the RH and photographer and we have set up payment plans that are very very manageable. We just have to make sure not to get caught up in the little stuff that may pop up and subtract significantly from our budget.

We want to be young homeowners probably within 2-3 years of our marriage so we are thinking of things in a broader scheme. Ex. Do you really want a limo or a jacuzzi in the master suite?

Thats great, it seems you really have it under control and have done your research!

08 crashing again. We weren't paying for half the things many of the brides are doing. But we thought long a hard as to what we need for the wedding and the rest can go for the house. e.g. pictures, food, and music a MUST. What we cut was invites (seal n send) as an example. Since I'm from a big family and have too many friends and didn't want to hurt anyone feelings, we didn't want a BP and made everyone a guest. Less drama. So I'm still looking at things to cut.

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves...

we are paying for most of it ourselves and my mom is going to help out where she can (ex- paying for my engagement party). Because of this, i opted for a day wedding to save some $ pp, and not really going to do any of the 'extras' (like cry packs, etc.) and i am keeping my bridal party small. But i am already calculating paying for basic vendors and its already adding up to soooo much, ugh.. i just hope that we have at least a little something left over for a down payment on a house, although i don't know if that will happen!

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves...

It is soo hard to save money for the wedding and a house at the same time...so to save money for the wedding i figure i will do alot of things myself, like inviations, STD's, have his uncle do engagement shoot, minimal centerpieces things like that...it is soo overwhelming to think about money right now...

def getting stressed!! i have a teaching certification but only had a job as a ta this year. fh is set as a teacher, but until i get a full time teaching job its gonna be hard not to stress...
we just laugh when we look at houses now because they are so expensive

i keep reminidng myself that its still two years away and thats plenty of time to save..... i hope....

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves...

The worst part of it all is the economy S U C K S!! Gas prices dont help in saving money

Sometimes I just want to screw the big wedding and do it in city hall...

Then I remember how much I want to wear a wedding dress and party all night long and take lots of pictures!!!

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves...

this does suck with the economy and all. i'm not getting any raises as fast as all these prices are going up....so to pay for a wedding and a house? screw that. i feel like i'll be 40 by the time I own. I'm not happy about this but I've actually looked into renting a house.....i would much rather own it...but if that's what needs to be done..so be it :D
