Re: Children at my bridal shower

OMG, I would never allow it. JMO
I have Jr. BMs, Jr. Hostesses and FGs, and I am NOT allowing them to come, but a few of their Mothers are coming - ALONE. IMHO, a bridal shower is not a place for children.
Good LUCK

Re: Children at my bridal shower

my friend had her rb (3 or 4 yrs.old) there---and not for nothing but he helped her open every gift (which was cute at first-ya know -but then it got annoying! and i love kids!!)....he was in every pic (his back bc/ he was helping her open the gifts) and you couldn't even see what she was opening and the pics will have him blocking the present---i don't know--i think if the mother occupys the child then maybe (only if its a few kids) or if they are really good kids who could entertain themselves-!!--

although i know my 2 FG will be at mine ( i'm almost sure) and i want them there--i also know that their moms will keep them close and they will just sit & watch--if they were crazy kids--i'd say no way!!LOL!

Tell the ladies to leave the kids at home, what the hell is wrong with people.

I think your honey needs to step in.

You shouldnt have to deal with kids until you have your own. JMO

I love kids and had my 2 cousins and my niece (who is my Jr. BM) at my shower. For me, I wouldn't have it any other way! Everyone is different though and you should go on what you feel is right or wrong. PS-none of my gifts were too 'naughty' and they didn't understand the peinoirs!

Re: Children at my bridal shower

the family that grew up behind me and my family are very close....we actually cut a self-made gate so that we didn't have to walk around the block to get there...

the shower was in my moms backyard and so occasionally...one of the girls little boy and girl came over....I reallly didn't care one way or another...but if they got in the way I probably would have...the mom made sure that they were out of the way...and then sent them back to their uncle...

I guess it all depends on YOU...since its YOUR shower!!

I had my 14 year old Jr. BM at my shower and cannot imagine NOT having her with me even if she had been only 6 years old. She is my best friend's daughter and is like a niece to me. BUT this was what I wanted. Tell the FSIL your concerns about the other children being left out. I am sure the 14 year old wants to be there with you and she is old enough NOT to open your gifts and misbehave. Maybe she can come for the 'Surprise' part and then get picked up or other comprimise.

Re: Children at my bridal shower

At my shower, I had my FG, who is an unusally well behaved 7 year old and just a doll! Other than that - no kids! It caused a huge fight at first but that has passed and everyone knows that we set an age limit for the wedding and the shower at 13. Yes, I had some instances where older sisters/sibling were invited and the younger ones weren't. Even my FG and RB have younger brothers who are not invited to the wedding. Their parents explained to them that you just have to be a certain age to attend. I can remember too as a child not beng able to attend weddings/showers till I was around 13/14. So that's how it was always done in my family. FH's family was a lot harder, but we're all past it now....

It's tough, but you have to do as YOU want - as someone said earlier - this is your one and only bridal shower! It has to be what you want it to be!

I see no reason why children cant go to a bridal shower,i mean what could possibly go on except for a few gag gifts As long as well behaved i see no reason why not

I would not have children in my shower either, just explain them why, and they should respect your choice!

JMO - I do not think that a bridal shower is a place for children. I find it extremely annoying when they try to help the bride open the gifts - it takes twice as long, and it's impossible to see anything. I've been at a couple of showers where that has happened - everyone thinks it's cute in the beginning, but both times, the mothers did not have the sense to notice when enough was enough!!!

I want the children in my bridal party at my shower. One FG will be 7, one will be almost 3 and my Jr. is 10... I don't think I would enjoy it if they weren't there. JMO of course! Of course they are the only 3, there is no one else in mine or FH's family considered children anymore.

I would have them (especially 14 years old). Kids are at their best behavior at places and things like this. They feel special/important. I asked that all my cousin's kids come to the wedding and all the girls be at the shower. It's a personal preforance.

I'm going to have my mom and MOH invite my two Jr. BM (they're 10 and 6) and live in FL. I'm also going to invite our FG (she is 4). But, that is it.

My FMIL is throwing me a shower in PA also and I have a feeling it will be at her house or my FSIL's house and I'm sure they'll invite the whole family (incl husbands and kids).

Re: Children at my bridal shower

That was one of my million shower battles, I mean stories. My MIL insisted my mom invite her cousin's daughter's daughter who is 13 (and I never met..well maybe once 6 years ago). My mom wanted no kids (which included my 13 year old cousin who I see alot) and explained that to MIL. MIL was insistent. My mom let her win after lots of stress and would up the neither the daughter or the daughter's daughter went (not even sure if they sent a gift? can't remember).

My mom had some silly 'penis' jokes and such and my family has a dirty sense of humor and did not want children to be involved. My mom wanted to get a stripper to be spiteful but knows I am not into that.

Oh the stress my 'surprise' shower caused.

Re: Children at my bridal shower

Looks like you made some progress.

It just makes me so mad that we (as brides to be) have to deal w/ stress over a bridal shower that's for us! I feel that if people were going to ask questions as to what you want, then respect your wishes. If they're going to throw it, use their best judgement/ask your MOH- why bother the bride?- Just a general statement, I'm seeing this a lot lately, and starting to have it hit close to home
