FH & I went together. We'd agreed ahead of time that he could decide and I wouldn't say anything, I was just there for moral support. Then when they whipped out all the vests and choices of colors within each pattern he looked so confused and pathetic that I told him what I liked.

If he wants to go alone...I would say you should let him...but talk in great length about the details of the wedding...and color schemes...even call the store in advanced to let them know the colors...
thank goodness DH wanted me there... you can always go later and look to see what he picked without him knowing
