The only reason we had it was because it extended the reception to 5 hours plus 1 hour cocktail. We got married on a Saturday night and were thinking of having an afterhours party but this ended up being cheaper.

Re: Are you having a vienese hour???
I am having one too. My family loves it. Also, the extra package for having the Vienese hour included a 1/2 dozen roses on each table so for the extra price pp it was worth it.

Re: Are you having a vienese hour???
I am not having one, becasue we are getting married on a Sunday night and the reception ends at 11:00, so I didn't want to extend it, since most people would not want to stay that late, but we are having pastries on the table during dessert instead.

Re: Are you having a vienese hour???
I am not having one, instead we are having little vienesse platters put on each table. I do think people really enjoy the vienesse table though, I've never seen one at a wedding and not seen people crowding all around it. For us, it wasn't worth it, mostly because I don't like the time it takes away from the dancing and partying and it just makes people so full that I feel like nobody will want to dance even after the vienesse is done. I must admit though, when I go to a wedding and see a vienesse I think 'YES!' Especially if they have zeppoles (sp?).

Re: Are you having a vienese hour???
We are only having the trays of mini pastries put on each table....I don't want everyone in a different room eating at that time during the reception, I would rather them be on the dance floor!! Plus I thought that, since there is going to be so much food at the cocktail hour plus dinner, that is was not worth the $$.

Re: Are you having a vienese hour???
I would say it depends on the type of cocktail hour you're having. One of my BMs had an elaborate cocktail hour with lobstar tails, etc. So by the time the viannese hour came people were too full to eat and people were actually leaving early because she had extended it an extra hour. It was nice to look at though. My catering hall threw in a mini-viannese, where there will still be chocolate covered strawberries, ice-cream sundae station, cookies, pastries, cakes, coffees and cordials. I feel that this was enough and for *free* you can't beat that.

We're having a served dessert, cake, and an international coffee cart come around. Yum!

Oh yeah, in addition to the cake and the vienese platters, we are also having a served desert, either a tartufo or a lemon sorbet or something like that.

Re: Are you having a vienese hour???
Here is my opinion on a Viennese Hour.. It completely ends your reception!! They usually set it up on the base of the dancefloor, and everyone hoards it. Therefore the band can no longer play dance music. We did not want this at all. Instead we had banana's foster and cherry's jubilee stations around the room. Plus we chose a sampler dessert plate, and there were assorted pastries put on the table in addition the the wedding cake. Therefore, the people that wanted the types of dessert that are typically found on a vienese table were able to enjoy that, and then the people who wanted to party were still able to dance! Just my opinion... good luck!!
edited to say: In addition, we had a dessert table on the way our with fondue, hot chocolate and cappuccino (in to go cups), cookies and other goodies for people to enjoy while they were waiting for their cars. It was really a hit!

We are not having a viennese hour. We are having viennese trays at each table, including, pastries, cookies, etc. We are also having cordial carts, espresso & cappacino carts.

Re: Are you having a vienese hour???
I got married at Carlyle on the Green. We had a 'desert cafe' and it was all set up in the back of the room so that dancing could continue. I had a choice of the cafe or 3 deserts plated with the wedding cake. Everyone loved the desert cafe -- the selection was huge. Unfortunately, I didn't get to taste much. They also walked around offering chocolate covered strawberries at the tables which was a nice touch.

Mini vienese with cookies, pastries and fruit on each table. Personally I think a lot is wasted with a full vienese...JMO
