Re: Long and only SWR - sticky situation, help pls.

I am so soryy you have to deal with all this. Short and simple if she is not trying/caring then you need to fend for yourself and do whats right for you. The house would need a new paint job and a carpet cleaning for it to be smokeless. Is she willing to do that for you? I understand it means alot to you to get ready in your own house but apparently it doesnt REALLY matter to your mom. Maybe try talking to your dad?

I am very sorry about all this

I'm sorry Carla. I wish I could help you out with this one, especially since my mother also still smokes. But so does FH and FH's whole family, so it's something I've just learned to accept. Quitting for me was very hard too, and I only smoked for about 5 years. Could you imagine trying to quit after 30+ years????? It really is one of those things that she just has to be ready for.

As for getting ready, I am unfortunately of no help there either. Since my parents divorced and sold the house, I'm stuck getting ready in a hotel

I am sorry! I totally understand what you are going through.

I am dealing with the same thing! Both parents smoke, my Fh and I live in a co-op together, I have decided to keep my dress at my future in laws house and get ready at the hotel. I figure this was the easiest thing to do.
I have been trying to get both them to try quitting for years and years, the things I have done like flushing box after box down the toilet, breaking them in half etc. They say they are both quitting in the new year.... Ill wait and see

im sorry hun.

i know its hard but as much as you want her to quit...she isn't going to until she is ready. I would say as far as getting ready that you should just get a hotel room and get ready there. I know it might be disappointing but you definitely don't want to smell like an ashtray on your wedding day.

aww i'm sorry sweety

i will be of no help b/c i am a smoker. i don't listen to anyone when they tell me to quit or anything like that. my dad was even just diagnosed with emphasema.

some people (myself included) are just too thickheaded/stubborn

ITA!!!

And as for getting ready, maybe you can get ready at the hotel, or store the dress at one of your friends houses for the last few days and play it by ear. Good Luck!

Maybe you could get them to compromise before the wedding...like smoking outside only.

you said it would kill her if you didn't get ready there but you already told her that if she doesn't stop then you're not getting ready there or sleeping over so she only has herself to blame...

do you have a close aunt or other relative that lives close by that you could keep your dress at their house?

I am so sorry. I can't relate, but FH could. His mom actually quit 4 years ago after smoking for like 40 years of her life. Everything he owned reeked like smoke and she didn't care.
I wouldn't go over there on your wedding day. It's your day and you don't want your dress, hair, etc. to smell like smoke. I feel bad because that is where you should be getting ready
