I totally understand and I would probably feel the same way as you! I guess you just have to support him...He is doing a really great thing!!!

I know! That's what bothered me the most I think. He at first asked me what I thought about it and I told him the truth. That I honestly didn't want him to go. And then he got defensive and kept saying 'everyone else thinks it's so amazing.' Which it is but I explained that EVERYONE ELSE doesn't live with him and isn't engaged to him!! I was frustrated because why did he even bother asking me if he was just planning on going no matter what I said!

It's horrible what happened there and I feel so terrible and want to help in any way possible... I thought that donating money would be nice, I didn't think that he had to GO there.

I agree thats very kind of him however its okay for you to be selfish .. we are human so it is natural to feel like way.. and i kept telling myself ' Please get on the plane already since he is a US citizen!!!...'

Update::
Three of my uncles just passed away. however my fiance is alive and well in DR!!! unfortunately fiance tried his hardness but his mother was not able to come with him so he will be going back to get her when things settle...

Totally normal to not want him to go - I would miss him too. But what an amazing person to pick up and go like that! ...

I think he needs you to be his biggest fan and show him how proud you are of him for being such a good person. I think it is a bummer for guys when they get praise from other people, but not the ones they need it from most.

If he sees you putting yourself aside and supporting him, I think he will totally appreciate it! And love you even more for it!

People have lost so much...maybe you can see it as your 'contribution' to helping those desperate people there!

I'm so sorry about your uncles. But I'm so happy to hear about your fiance. What great news. And I'm sure you are so relieved that his mom will be OK!
