Re: Really need help with this---Need all the opinions I can get!
Thank you all so much for your opinions!! I didn't think I'd get such a uniform response.. I felt bad and like a horrible person for wanting to return it at first.. I know I can get a nicer ring somewhere else I just have been putting it off because it didn't seem like the right thing to do!
I feel soooo much better about it now and I think I'm going to try to get a similar ring designed somwhere, or I bet I can just find one like it!
Thanks girls!!

when FH and I were looking at rings, we were at Kristens Jewelers in the bayshore mall and the lady told us that a lot of jewelers (especially chain jewelers) LIE about the diamond, even so much so that they will say its a diamond when its a CZ.
She told us that lying about color and clarity and all that happens a lot.
Def go to a respected jeweler. Hope you can find something you loveee

if FH is going to get his money back and you can purchase a ring elsewhere, i would recommend you returning it and starting over. at least you get a story out of it!
and plus, your new ring will have sentimental value too - and hopefully you'll get a better stone for your money! good luck!

I would absolutely take it back. Although you may feel somewhat attached to it, I totally understand, you are always going to look at it and feel sort of 'off'. I would go to another jeweler and perhaps they can make you the same exact setting. You and your fiance should both be happy with the ring, and you deserve to get what you paid for. Good Luck with whatever you chose!

I agree w/ all the other girls, if you can get your money 100% back, then return it. FH and a bunch of my friend's husbands got the center stones from blue nile and all got a great deal on it.
good luck w/ urs!

First of all, I would never purchase a diamond without seeing it in person and without a certification.
That being said, I would return the ring like it was on FIRE, take the money, and go to a reputable independent jeweler. Seriously. Go with FH and pick out a new ring. You'll probably find a much better clarity ring. Go to the diamond district. Good luck.
I know you probably feel like that's the ring he proposed with and you should be happy with whatever it was... but it's not fair to have spent so much money and not get something worth it. I'ms orry this happened though. This is why FH refused to go to Zales/Kay/Jared... I know a lot of people walk away from these places very happy, but he wanted personal, individual service and a guarantee and I think he made the right decision.
If you'd like a Diamond District rec, FM me and I'll get it to you pronto.

Send it back and get a new ring from a jewler that you know. Size doesn't matter, clarity matters. You'll be way happier look down at something that sparkles!

I am agreeing wiht everyone as well. I understand that it has sentimental value to you, but you said that you were unhappy with it as well as FH. Since he can geth the full purchase price plus the insurance, I say return it and go to a jeweler. examine your stones and make sure they are the ones you want, and make sure you get the certification also! FH got his certification when he picked up the ring. there's no reason that they shouldn't be able to supply you with the cert, and you shouldn't have to go through all that trouble that you went through at zales. you are spending a lot of money! make sure you like it! good luck!

I would return the ring totally and get something both of you guys are happy with. You are going to have this ring forever....you want to be happy with it.
BTW I got my ring from zales also but I dont remember getting a certification with it. I have to call them today

I think this was just bad luck for me.. I know tons of people thrilled with their rings from Zales, and a few that had similar problems.. For the ring my FH purchased it says on the website 'comes with certification' so I'm starting to think someone else returned this ring because of quality issues and didn't return the card so they didn't have one to send to me! I am glad it worked out for you, but def stay on them about the certification.. It can take 4-8 weeks they said, thus why at 7 weeks later I have no certification lol

OH and PS I am definitely returning it.. I called them AGAIN this morning thinking maybe this time would work and they'd give me another option.. Or at least tell me where I could locate the same style at a store so I could compare diamond quality... And instead they made me CRY cause they were so rude and told me I couldn't do anything and when I said I was considering taking them to small claims they said they would bury me in court and no chance they would ever lose... then they hung up on me! I am done with them, I really am!

I would get my money back. If you feel like you should, just to make sure and see if you were ripped off, i would go to an appraiser and see what the value of the ring really is compared to what they told you it was.
Most of the bigger Macy's do e-ring appraisals. I know the one in Herald Square and Roosevelt Field do it. its only 10% of what the ring is appraised at. so if the ring is $10K then the appraisal will only cost you $100
I would say never to buy something like an e-ring from a chain store. There are so many wonderful jewelers out there that will take their time with you and help you.
I agree with the OP, after you choose your new band, choose the diamond seperately so you can really see all of its flaws and they jeweler should definately let you see it through a loupe. then put the ring together and see how you like the whole effect.
Go together with you FH and pick something you wil both like together.
But before you do, demand Zales give you the GIA certification - and never buy another ring without a GIA certification again!

omg im so sorry you have to deal with this!! I feel like the other girls covered all the bases, so I don't have much more advice for you other than to return the ring (you're lucky that you can get your money back!) go to reputable jeweler and maybe they can replicate your setting so at least you'll still have the same ring that you love, just with a lot less headaches
sorry that this was so stressful for you good luck!

Yeah, I mean the whole point was to make it easier on FH originally.. I didn't think he would have a clue how to select a diamond and then select a setting at a jewelry store.. Now that he knows much more about he's kicking himself for not doing that.. But I kind of wanted minimal involvement before the engagement so I wasn't going to force him to go anywhere confusing haha
Just got off the phone with my Mom, and she agrees to get rid of it because it'll probably only get worse and I won't have this opportunity to just return it! Up until now I have always had good experiences with Zales.. this kinda *****, but oh well!

Re: Really need help with this---Need all the opinions I can get!
Unfortunately, we had the same problem with Zales. FH bought the wrong size, and when I got it back from resizing- there was a HUGE line (I don't want to say crack bc that seems impossible-since diamonds are the hardest substance on earth). They gave him the runaround, and 6 weeks later I still didnt have a replacement. So, FH said screw it and went to a family jeweler and got an entirely different ring, and used one of his mom's diamonds (its a perfect diamond, off the boat from Russia) as the center stone. Even though I didn't have a ring for 6 wks (which made announcements funny- people automatically look at your finger when you say you are engaged), it was worth it in the long run.

I feel so bad you're having such troubles w your ring during this happy period.
I'm with everyone. Screw them. Take it back, get your $ and walk away.
I'm one of those brides that's engaged without having my ring yet. We've lived together forever, own a house etc and I put off the wedding due to $ and being sick. I've technically been engaged for YEARS lol and finally caved and said I'd have a wedding for him. We started planning so we could concrete a RH etc before the dates get booked.
After picking out countess rings, I went to a client of mine which btw is Jared (yes I know they're a chain), had the reg mgr come in and bring in stuff from their distributors. I ordered a diamond through him, but not n their inventory. I knew the C's I wanted and had them brought in.
that being said, my ring is still there bc I refuse to let Groomzilla pay this ring with credit. I poicked out a higher quality diamond knowing I'll be wearing it forever and want to love it. We're doing monster renovations on the house and I want this ring paid for in full..and I want my new kitchen too. lol I'll have my ring on my finger ina few weeks.
Don't sweat not having your ring for a while. You'll get it and love it and be ever so much happier knowing your ring is beautiful and worth the $ he spent.
And btw Zales would lose in small claims court.

I agree with everyone else - you are going to have this ring FOREVER, do you really want this black cloud over it??
You both deserve better - return it and clean your hands of the company b/c they dont deserve your money.
If you want a recco - I have the guy in the diamond distric that FH used and he got the recco from about 3 people, all who didnt know each and he said the experience was AMAZING!!!!

Will he get the full purchase price back if you guys decide to return it? If you can get the full amount back, that seems like the best option.
Yes we'll get back everything, including the insurance I bought through them for a few hundred $$..
Take it back and go somewhere else. Your engagement is very important and someday you may want to pass it on to one of your children so go get something that you will be very happy with. It is worth being without it for a few weeks then having an inferior diamond.

WHAT?!!!! OMG I wish you'd had that recorded. Completely unprofessional and I'm glad you posted this! My biggest peeve is horrible service. I'd prefer someone inexperienced over a bi#tch any day!
You need to review them on BBB, Yelp, EVERYWHERE!! OMG I'm furious for you!
