I feed my dog Scienc Diet (adult small bites). Last time I went I noticed they came out with that same kind but the organic (or natural) version of it, so I've been feeding her that. She never noticed the difference- maybe it's the boiled chicken that we HAVE to add to her food to make her eat she's such a spoiled dog!

Re: NWR: dog food
Sounds like my mom. My mom feeds her dogs 'Nutrish' which is by Rachel Ray, I think. But I feed my dogs Beneful, or if I have to run to the store down the block Purina.

FH and I feed our pom and cockpoodle WELLNESS. Read the ingredients when you choose a food, the first listed should be MEAT: chicken, lamb, beef etc. Not corn, potato, or by product! Alot of commercial foods are just full of garbage!
WELLNESS is a holistic food free from meat by-products, animal fats, potential allergens like corn, soy and wheat as well as artificial colors, flavorings or preservatives.
Our vet said it was a very good brand. It is a little more expensive but our dogs are little so they don't eat much

Re: NWR: dog food
ugh Im like the ultimate dog food snob lol.
anyway I feed my dogs Wellness CORE. It's grain free. My husky eats canned - Innova.
The reason I switched my dogs is bc my husky has all these stomach and skin issues. He was costing me a fortune at the vet. I realized he was allergic to corn...many dogs are and I found him a grain free diet that doesn't irritate his belly.
I have a friend who's a breeder and she went down the list of foods w me and her vet friend and I didn't realize people pay so much for food that's really the same quality as kibbles and bits.
Science Diet..not such a great food, and that rachel ray food is all filler. Its just supermarket food that costs more bc her name is on it. Dogs don't need lots of veggies. They're meat eaters.
I had a dog food ratings chart somewhere. I'll look for it.
That being said, my parents fed my childhood dog Ralphie crap food her whole life and she lived to 18.
I just don't like when people spend a fortune on food thinking its great and its not better than dog chow.
Look at the ingredients. If there's corn in it..your food *****. If meat isn't listed as the 1st ingredient, Id look elsewhere.
My fav food is Innova - Logan eats this is canned. Cee doesn't.
canidae..some people said theyve switched recipes recently but I know for the $, its a great food
Blue Buffalo...this is a a nice but pricey food.
Science Diet is pushed by the reps to vets. Unless its the vet formula , its like dog chow.
Sorry about the long post. I'm seriously passionate about dogs.

I'm going to try this one. I don't want to keep feeding him crappy food and then he'll have problems in the future. Thanks!
They love the Wellness meat jerkies as treats. lol they smell really good like smoked turkey jerky!

Re: NWR: dog food
Well my beagle has been sick lately. (we rescued her abt 6 mths ago and she was parvo resolved) so weve been switching her food a lot to try and see what agrees with her the best. And as of right now we are feeding her an all natural food. Im not sure the name of it but they have one that is supposidly easy to digest and it seems like its working best for her.

Thanks for the info! I never really gave it much thought until I went to that store. i've been waiting for his food to run out so now is the time to start the switch. Plus he seems to be having skin problems, he will scratch so hard he hurts himself the vet gave some medicine and we changed his shampoo so I'm hoping the food will help too.
Make sure you don't wait to COMPLETELY run out!!! It's important to gradually make the switch so the puppy's stomach doesn't get irritated (diarhea central!).
Start with adding a little of the new food and increase it a little every day until it is just eating the new food.
Good luck! Like allornil said, wellness may help since it is grain free and your doggie may be allergic. Check out their website!

We feed our puppies Blue Buffalo. The vet seemed happy with the choice and said it was one of the better ones out there. One of our dogs has some allergies as well and has done very well on the Fish and Potato. They both really like the food.
I've never heard of Wellness before. Where do you ladies that use it buy it? What is the cost like?

Petco has a pretty good natural dog food section and they carry it. I always see wellness in the little dog boutiques too. OH! They even sell it at wholefood. The availability is the only thing that made me choose it over blue buffalo.
I don't remember the exact price but just checked online at petco and it seems to go for around $30 for a 15 lbs bag

I know petco carries some wellness but doesn't always carry CORE...or didn't. I get mine at a pet store near me and its pricey..like 53 bucks a bag. same price at petco. 26 lbs btw

Re: NWR: dog food
we go to a K9 center around our house its a holistic dog food I was reading up on how bad the commercial brands really are for your dog when we got our puppy we tried purina and it said she should eat 6 cups a day then we switched to holistic health extentions and we only feed her about 3 cups a day it says 2 is good but she's spoiled!! The other brands are made up of a lot of fillers but if you go with a more natural and organic one it is a lot better for the dog especially when they get older they will be healthier. I find that its about $5-$10 more than iams or pedagree but lasts like twice as long so its really cheaper in the end and my dog hasnt gotten sick yet and the vet and everyone always complaments how healthy her skin and coat are!
