Re: Oil Spill...
The whole situation is HORRIBLE!!! And now BP is thrilled that they're collecting 15,000 barrels a day with their new rig. Well they don't care about the environment, they're just excited to have oil to sell (my apologies for the skepticism). But as a diver it hurts me big time to see the ocean life being devastated the way it is. It is so amazing to jump in and see all the life and swim with the turtles and everything else down there. FH & I were planning a trip to the keys, but now we're not sure we'll get there before it's completely destroyed.
What makes me more angry than anything else is not the animals and the devastation (please don't think I don't care about the animals/sealife because I very much do and it's horrible they're being killed for no reason) but the politicians and their stupidity towards the whole situation. All the lawyers and muckity-mucks are pointing fingers and wanting to file lawsuits. Now is NOT the time to do that. FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEN POINT FINGERS!!!!! Focus the energy used to attach blame towards finding a solution and stopping the oil.
One piece of good news for the Bahamas honeymoon though; because of the way the ocean current is they should stay oil free. I believe the oil will travel around Florida and start working it's way up the eastern coast line rather than traveling south into the Caribbean. So not good news in general, but good for traveling to the Bahamas and other islands.
