I happen to have a lot of posts.. over 1000.. I happen to have access to this site while at work however I dont believe posts counts make you a 'true LIWer', in fact im not even sure what a 'true LIWer' is!

100% agree.

The TWOTY convo has been beaten to DEATH.

I get it, I have less posts - I also have 7 classes and a full-time job and post as often as I possibly can.

I agree that the comments made earlier suggest that that somehow makes me 'less' of a LIW-er, and that is just not fair.

Anywho, just wanted to say your comment is right on the mark!!

60% the year of the wedding (2011)
25 % the next year wedding (2012)
10% 2 yeaer out wedding (2013)
5% Prior year wedding (2010)

Or something around that. this way the year that's getting married gets the most and the ones who have more time is less. Just a suggestion.

FYI-- this is just an idea- I don't plan on attending the event.

couldn't agree more with u. Although I don't beleive that by having lots of posts u can be a 'true LIWer' and therefore have the right to go to TWOTY, I do beleive that 2011 brides should have a priotity for the huge reason that this will be the ONLY OPPORTUNITY for us to go, unfortunately

I'll start by apologizing for this being long, since it's bound to be. To be clear from the beginning, there are no intended personal attacks in here, and that I've purposefully quoted Ron only.

Hi, my name is Sarah. I've been engaged since 12/09 and a member of LIW since 05/10. This is my 779th post. I'm a 2012 bride. I'm LI born, raised, and to-be-married... but I'm studying in England now. And every time I read the comments on Ron's TWOTY poll (this one), I find myself fuming.

What started as a simple poll about the timing of the TWOTY ticket sale devolved into a conversation about who is more of a 'real' LIW bride and who is more deserving of tickets. It's left me feeling alienated from the LIW community -- rather like trying to argue with the popular clique in high school. Hence this post.

Quoting what Ron said about TWOTY in his post:

Posted by LIWeddings NYCityWeddings

Lets keep in mind the reason TWOTY came into existence. It isn't just a party. It was a way for brides to be to see a soup to nuts wedding and get ideas for their wedding, win some prizes they could use towards their wedding and meet some of the other brides.

I get that there are a limited number of spots, that only 8 of the 2011'ers got to go last year, and that there are very few spots for newlyweds. I get that we all like to party, and that we'd all like to go. But we can't.

I get fired up by the implications that the people who post most are somehow more deserving of tickets (though I support some minimum post count -- Ron has said 231. The discussion about people who will just stumble onto the site and wind up going to TWOTY is a false one). And I resent the implications that us 2012'ers and 2013'er are less deserving of tickets because we have more time. Just because I'm planning a 2012 wedding doesn't mean I'll be able to go to next year's TWOTY. Some of us have crazy work schedules. Others of us aren't on Long Island very often. Some of us will push our weddings up. And it'd sure as heck be useful to get ideas (and maybe win some prizes) before we've booked all our vendors.

Sure, my post count could be higher. And there is a degree to which posting more makes you more a part of the community. But only somewhat. I try to comment (quite a lot recently) on posts where I have a productive comment. I also tend to congratulate people, welcome newbies, and direct them to the 2012 board (or maybe the 2013 board soon!). But does it really further the community to know what I had for lunch? Or to post on the 'question game'-type threads that exist solely to up people's post counts?

If I did go to TWOTY, would people view me as that girl who took a seat away from a more deserving, more committed, truer LIW 2011'er? That's certainly how some of the comments sounded. If that's the case, I don't think I really want to be a part of this community. (But I do. I generally like you guys. And I spend far too much time on here)

How about we impose a one-time attendance rule? Doesn't solve the problem for this year, but it might help in the future.

Why stir the pot and start this again? All of this was said the origional TWOTY post. They can't make everyone happy and everyone has a valid point...we get it!

First of all

and secondly people make this seem like the ONLY thing out there to book vendors and this is like a once in a lifetime thing and the most important thing in their lives. I voted a random ticket selection. Sure it would be fun to go to but if I don't go, I will def still find vendors and book them otherwise.

To be completely honest with you, I would hope a year before my wedding date I would have most vendors booked anyway. So why take a seat away from someone who hasn't booked any vendors and wants to go to TWOTY and see them.

Isn't this similar to a wedding anyway??
So next time you go to a wedding, ask all the vendors for a business card

Not to be mean about anything....maybe I'm wrong. I'm not very familiar with TWOTY so I'm just guessing that's what goes on.

I can't go to TWOTY and probably can't go next year either, but if I was on LI now would be the right time to go and look, I should be all booked by next year (fingers crossed).

Thanks for speaking your mind, and I think you were VERY careful to not offend.

I 100% agree. I feel like its been a 'attack the 2012/2013ers' feast. If your a 2011 bride and its your last chance to go...sorry but oh well. Maybe you didnt find LIW right after your engagment, or had a short engagment...but as ron said, the whole point of TWOTY is to get a feel for a full wedding and help with your planning. If a 2011 doesn't at least have an idea of their vendors, or at least have them booked....well then there maybe a bigger issue at hand. It appears that the bigger issue is that people forgot why TWOTY started (and hense why Ron made that initali comment). I do NOT wanna bash any 2011ers...but i just feel that 2012/13ers are being kicked in the butt because 'we can go again and again'. It has been said before, but between work schedules and locations issue, there is a good possibility that a 2012/13er WILL NOT be able to go 'again and again'. For all i know, i might be working the night of TWOTY and im just wasting my time typing right now.

As for post counts, i commented on that in the original post. I believe that are important...but the minimum should be no where near 1000...people have lives outsie of LIW....i'm not lucky enough to have a computer at work (hell for my 12hour shifts, i barely get a chair). Also, with all the 'Q&A' Threads that been poping up....yea, posts really dont mean anything anymore.

Now lets go back to talking about RHs and Vendors! and stop bashing one another about the dates of our wedding! everyone picked their dates for various reasons...and lets just enjoy the planing process!!

I think this was incredibly well written and makes many valid points!!!

I think that almost no 2011 girls go to go last year partly because the 2010 girls were VERY enthusiastic and we all ended up messaging and texting each other when the tickets went on sale...they were booked up very fast. That may or may not happen again with the 2011 girls...but if the whole point of TWOTY so that girls can see vendors in action and get ideas for their wedding...the 2012/13 girls have just as much of a right to go as the '11 girls...if not MORE so since many of the '11 girls probably have many of their vendors booked already.

Not trying to start more drama...I see it from both sides and the REAL reality is if I don't get picked to be in the BP then there's a very slim chance I'll even be able to get to go. Does that suck? Yeah...but its fair. I'm married already, I'd just be going for the party. :)

I agreed with a lot of what you said but then you went and had to point out '2011er's'. There are 'committed' girls from other years. As well as some 11'ers who need to push back their wedding. I've seen girls on here who were getting married in later years (had more vendors than me booked). I still stand by the 1st come 1st serve because it's how it was done before. I will probably miss out on tickets again this year but at least it will be because I was not able to get on.

As for CS point of seeing a wedding from soup to nuts what about us girls who have been to 1-2 wedding in their life. Shouldn't we get to see a 'wedding' from soup to nuts even if we are getting married in 2011.

Good POint everyone. I do think there should be at least a minimum post requirment. But to say someone that's getting married in 2011 and has 4500 posts is more deserving then somone that has only 1200 posts is crazy. Some of the brides on here respond to EVERY post wedding relevant or not. Just because some brides don't have time to sit on here all day doesn't mean there any less a LIW so i definetely agree with you on that. The whole 2011/2012 debate i'm still on the fense about. But definetely don't think just because you post less or don't attend the GTG's or other events that doesn't mean you're any less of a LIW. You just don't obsess with all this stuff.
