Very well said! I got engaged at the end of July and found this site. I didn't post too often unless I really had something to say. Because we are getting married in July 201 I do not have as much time to get all my vendors etc as some others on this board have had or to get my post count up before TWOTY. As Ron has said it is not just a party, it is a place for brides to see vendors and help them make decisions for their weddings. The 2012 TWOTY will be too late for me. I am just hoping that I am able to get to go this year but if I don't I will not have any issue with anyone else that LIW determines is eligible to go.

Re: A comment on Ron's TWOTY poll
U may have a point chica and I dont mean to start a fight BUT TWOTY 2011 is our ONLY chance to go (To us who will get married on 2011) To those who get married on 2012,2013 have next year to go to...

Re: A comment on Ron's TWOTY poll
I see both sides here. I agree on a minimum post limit. 1000 is a bit high but 100 is low. I think Ron was joking about the 231 btw.
I also think that there should be a percentage of brides per year invited. That would appease a lot of people.
But, having spoken to you quite a bit, i'm not impartial here bc Id love for you to go. Lol

Re: A comment on Ron's TWOTY poll
Great post. I do agree with you that the year a bride is getting married really shouldn't determine if the bride gets to attend or not.
However, I definitely feel that the number of posts should be taken into consideration. I understand that we all have lives outside of this website, and we are all busy, but obviously someone with close to 1000 posts(like yourself) knows a bit more about the site and even what TWOTY is than someone with 100 posts.
It is for this reason that I think that the number of posts should be increased and a set time should be given for when tickets go on sale. This way every single person who truly wants to go and finds a way to get the tickets gets a chance to go. If I'm not one of the lucky 200, then at least I know I tried!

Re: A comment on Ron's TWOTY poll
I was one of the 2011 girls who was unable to go to TWOTY last year because of low post count
and guess what ladies I am still alive and my wedding will still be what I want even though I didn't go
Ron and the staff at LIWeddings will never be able to make every bride on Long Island happy and that is a fact
They cannot rent out Madison Square Garden for the TWOTY....it is what it is and it has gone on for many years and will continue to go on regardless of how much brides vent
Call me any name you want cause as much as you want from this post
I am sorry but I am tired of this Wedding Of The Year conversation
Enjoy your Saturday night all

I'll start by apologizing for this being long, since it's bound to be. To be clear from the beginning, there are no intended personal attacks in here, and that I've purposefully quoted Ron only.
Hi, my name is Sarah. I've been engaged since 12/09 and a member of LIW since 05/10. This is my 779th post. I'm a 2012 bride. I'm LI born, raised, and to-be-married... but I'm studying in England now. And every time I read the comments on Ron's TWOTY poll (this one), I find myself fuming.
What started as a simple poll about the timing of the TWOTY ticket sale devolved into a conversation about who is more of a 'real' LIW bride and who is more deserving of tickets. It's left me feeling alienated from the LIW community -- rather like trying to argue with the popular clique in high school. Hence this post.
Quoting what Ron said about TWOTY in his post:
Posted by LIWeddings NYCityWeddings
Lets keep in mind the reason TWOTY came into existence. It isn't just a party. It was a way for brides to be to see a soup to nuts wedding and get ideas for their wedding, win some prizes they could use towards their wedding and meet some of the other brides.
I get that there are a limited number of spots, that only 8 of the 2011'ers got to go last year, and that there are very few spots for newlyweds. I get that we all like to party, and that we'd all like to go. But we can't.
I get fired up by the implications that the people who post most are somehow more deserving of tickets (though I support some minimum post count -- Ron has said 231. The discussion about people who will just stumble onto the site and wind up going to TWOTY is a false one). And I resent the implications that us 2012'ers and 2013'er are less deserving of tickets because we have more time. Just because I'm planning a 2012 wedding doesn't mean I'll be able to go to next year's TWOTY. Some of us have crazy work schedules. Others of us aren't on Long Island very often. Some of us will push our weddings up. And it'd sure as heck be useful to get ideas (and maybe win some prizes) before we've booked all our vendors.
Sure, my post count could be higher. And there is a degree to which posting more makes you more a part of the community. But only somewhat. I try to comment (quite a lot recently) on posts where I have a productive comment. I also tend to congratulate people, welcome newbies, and direct them to the 2012 board (or maybe the 2013 board soon!). But does it really further the community to know what I had for lunch? Or to post on the 'question game'-type threads that exist solely to up people's post counts?
If I did go to TWOTY, would people view me as that girl who took a seat away from a more deserving, more committed, truer LIW 2011'er? That's certainly how some of the comments sounded. If that's the case, I don't think I really want to be a part of this community. (But I do. I generally like you guys. And I spend far too much time on here)
How about we impose a one-time attendance rule? Doesn't solve the problem for this year, but it might help in the future.
i totally agree with you...im a newbie myself but am in desperate need of ideas, etc which is why i want to go....shouldnt matter that i dont have as many posts...forum mail doesnt count but i find they are more personal and i get useful information from that too. At the end of the day i dont think anyone is more deserving than another. im just glad that us brides have a community like this where we can come together and share ideas, thoughts, raves and resources

ITA with the one time attendance rule!!!! there has to be a better, fair way to give all girls a chance... maybe hold it somewhere that can handle 600-700 girls!!! I have only just heard about TWOTY a few days ago - not sure what the rules are, but it should be one ticket per bride - again, not sure if thats a rule now or not - but maybe it should be!

It's 1 per bride and groom (you do not have to bring your groom but it is an option)

60% the year of the wedding (2011) 25 % the next year wedding (2012) 10% 2 yeaer out wedding (2013) 5% Prior year wedding (2010)
Or something around that. this way the year that's getting married gets the most and the ones who have more time is less. Just a suggestion.
FYI-- this is just an idea- I don't plan on attending the event.

That's fair, and I'm certainly not looking to cause or call people names. And living in England, there's very little chance that I'll ever actually be able to go to TWOTY. I'll live.
While this discussion is framed through TWOTY because that was the issue at hand, my real point is about the perception that someone is a more deserving, more committed, truer LIW'er strictly because they have a high post count. Yes, there is some minimum level of participation necessary. But, once you've passed that, we should be perceived as equals and thus equally deserving.
I do agree that we are all equally deserving of tickets to TWOTY but I feel like we are beating this issue to death. The decision will not rest in our hands is my point. Let Ron and the rest of the staff do what they do best ..... run LIWeddings..... if there are brides out there that do not agree with the way they run this site no one is making them stay here.
Lets get back to talking about invites and favors and colors and dresses the things that will really matter in the end Remember we only will do this once [most of us] and we want to make it an amazing time

Not to start anything, but girls are still talking about invites and dresses and everything thing else that we are 'supposed' to. However, we are still able to discuss this as well. You don't have to open the post if it clearly states it is about TWOTY and you are sick of hearing about it.

Re: A comment on Ron's TWOTY poll
100% agree.
The TWOTY convo has been beaten to DEATH.
I get it, I have less posts - I also have 7 classes and a full-time job and post as often as I possibly can.
I agree that the comments made earlier suggest that that somehow makes me 'less' of a LIW-er, and that is just not fair.
Anywho, just wanted to say your comment is right on the mark!!
