FH and I both have seperate checking and savings where our checks get deposited. I also have a 'house account' where I pay the house taxes from since he moved in here. (its a little complicated bc my dad and I co-own the house.) FH has a part of his check put directly in here to split bills and I have bill pay transfers to it also. We also have a joint savings account/CDs at a credit union for our wedding fund.

I'm not really sure if we will merge accounts entirely since we already have the joint already and I dread changing things with NYC DOE. yuck
The automatic transfers work for us without us having to think about it.

we have 2 checking accounts a 'bill pay' account and a 'spending' account. We also have a savings account

We deposit FH's entire check into our bill pay account-- from this account we pay all our bills : mortgage, cable, RH payments, cell phones etc etc....

in our other checking account we deposit our 'spending money' this is self explanatory we only SPEND from this account

and then the money we have left over goes into our 'savings account'

I'm sharing this because when FH and i moved in last year we were paying bills without the other one knowing or overspending... and our bills got out of control... everything is soo organized now and our bank pays our bills through bill pay we've been able to save a TON of money and still pay for the wedding....

For those of you with joint savings accounts... if you and your FH have different incomes, do you each contribute the same amount to joint savings? Or does the person who makes more contribute more?

Does it seem like the person who makes more has the 'right' to spend more?

The way that we have been doing it is we both have to put in Xamount of dollars each pay check, and what ever extra $ we have by the end of the month goes into the joint account.

We do not put equal amounts. We looked at our individual bills and our joint bills and determined what amount we were comfortable putting in the account.

I put more money each paycheck then my FH but when he has OT on his check or other payments in his check he adds more money into the account.
