FH and I were in a similar situation. We lived in Baltimore where we didnt know anybody. It was a big change for me because I have lived here for my whole life and I have family and all my friends here. However on the financial situation we had a beautiful 2 bedroom apt for less than 800.00 in a decent area and since moving back here we have to live in my parents house in an upstairs apt because we cant afford rent and wedding at the same time.On a positive Im glad to be back with all my family & friends. It all depends on what is more important to you at this moment. I think the best thing to do is write a list of pros and cons. Good Luck!

ITA!!! I have a friend making this decision right now. Only you can. He knows life will be better down the road for his child so that is ultimately what is driving his decision. Not sure if that helps?!

With your FH making the same salary as he is here, what are the benefits of him taking the job in FL other than cost of living is cheaper? Is this a dream job for him or a step closer in the direction of where he wants to be career wise?
With your job situation it must really be tough to consider giving up your dream school but before making any decisions really look into the school system there to see howcit would be for u. U want to make sure you would be happy in your career there as well.
As far as fam n friends, of course its going to be tough but you can still visit and vice versa. Plus, u will make new friends there as well so I wouldn't let that reason stop u. Just make sure whatever decision u both make u both will be happy and there will be no regrets. I know its easier said than done but good luck!

Thanks for all your replies. We see ourselves as still being young and not tied down with children yet so we feel it could be a good a move at least for a few years but obviously we are still having second thoughts about it. When taking a job from NYC to Florida your pay would usually drop around 30,000 at least in my FH case because of the cost of living down there. So lets say he gets paid 100,000 here in New York, the equivalent in Florida would be 70,000. However HR said they would keep his New York salary, therefore, lets say we ever moved back to New York in order for it to be worth while the company would have to make an offer that would be equivalent to what he gets paid in florida, so that would be 130,000. Does that make sense ...sorry if i did it in percentages it would probably make more sense! So yes it would be worth while cost and salary wise, its just all the other things that we have to take into consideration. When I was young my dad had the opportunity to take a job in florida and he turned it down and til this day regrets it. He says what he bought our house for on LI the appraisale now has decreased so he would be losing money, where in FL he feels he could still be living comfortably. DECISIONS DECISIONS!

You definitely need to weigh the pros and cons of the situation. Personally, I would not be able to do it without my family and friends. I feel like if you decide to leave here for FL there's no turning back. That job will not be waiting for you if you decide to come back. But if you stay in NY other opportunities might come up for your FH still. I wish you luck with whatever decision you decide to make.

i recommend going to jacksonville for a week and feel it out...ride around, look at some places, hang out, meet some people and send your resume out down there to feel it out...you don't have to accept anything, but you should really make an effort to see if its a place you'd even like to be..

I completely agree. Feel it out, take a trip down there. One thing I've learned in my professional experience is that no amount of money can make up for being unhappy.
