interfaith couple & being pushed to convert

I'm in a similar situation. My fiance is Jewish and his family would like me to convert.

I haven't decided whether or not I will convert yet, but my fiance and I signed up for a class on Judaism at our local synagogue. The class is designed so that you can convert at the end if you want to, but it isn't mandatory. Especially if you want to raise your children Jewish, it's good to know about the history and traditions. Maybe you could find something like that. It may also make your future in-laws happy.

We have already asked a (reform) rabbi to marry us. She said she'll perform the ceremony whether or not I convert, and this seems to be the case with reform rabbis in general.

Since my family is not religious, we aren't planning to have a priest as well. However, I've asked my mom to do a reading during the ceremony to make my family feel more included. She's going to read a Shakespearean sonnet, but if you're parents are more religious maybe they could read a prayer.

It's a tough situation, but good luck!

Re: interfaith couple & being pushed to convert

this is a tough situation.
if you convert to Judaism, you will be Jewish and be having a jewish ceremony, so it would not be appropriate to have a priest involved.

if you are having an interfaith ceremony with both a jewish and a christian clergy person, then it would appropriate to represent both religions in the ceremony.

if you are having a jewish ceremony as an interfaith couple, if you do not convert, you can ask your rabbi or cantor to include a reading from the jewish bible (old testament) or song of songs that would make your non-jewish family feel comfortable. if you are having a soley jewish ceremony in this fashion, it is not appropriate to include a priest.
