Not sure where you're looking, but check out Fairfield Sunrise Gardens in Bohemia. They allow dogs of any size!

I apartment hunt constantly to find better deals and dogs are a big no-no unless you're in a complex and complex's are definitely more $ .. the apartment selection on LI sucks :( all I can advise is look constantly and when you find something you can live with, JUMP ON IT

MsErika, if not in a complex where do you look?

well FH and I were living with my mom, which is best case-senario because we weren't under a deadline to move, like having a lease ending.. we just looked everyday online I used craiglist.com and padmapper.com which is great because it combines all apartment websites.. we ended up getting a great deal and I don't mean money wise.. our apartment just just redone, and it was a garage to a house that they built into an apartment. the living room / kitchen and bathroom are a decent size, especially because we don't pay anything crazy, but the best part is our room is actually upstairs and very big.. so what I mean by a deal is we got it redone and not a basement or really sharing a wall or anything with our landlords. I wanted a complex because of security/if anything goes wrong because I suppose dealing with a landlord can be terrible to, but ours have been great. I just feel that if you really hunt you have the possibility of finding a better 'deal'.. if I had to choose a complex somewhat near where we're from I love the Atlantic Point in brookhaven or fairfield on broadway ave in holbrook. I would love to live in patchogue too. Our apartment is in west babylon and it's nice to be near babylon village but we're really more from holbrook/patchogue area.. just my advice.. weve even been on the hunt for a small house to rent but definitely no luck there :(

oh and getting a pet is the 1 thing our landlord won't budge on.. the ony places I've really seen that accept them are complexes.. we reallllly want a small companion

Are you looking for apartment complexes or apartments in a private house? Have you looked on craigslist? Many places say 'small pet okay', it's big dogs that lots of landlords don't go for.

Lake Grove apartments allow dogs- it's an additional $50 per month to have the dog but it's not a bad complex.

We were looking for a while and I decided to take a break. We looked at apartments in RVC, Mineola, Douglaston, Floral Park and Franklin Square and they were all GARBAGE! The one in Douglaston I was really excited about and was really insulted when I got there that the apartment was vacant yet there were pizza boxes and garbage bags full of crap lying around. It's really exhausting so if you're not in a rush I would take a break for a little. I'm going to start looking in Forest Hills and Astoria. We don't NEED to live on LI until we're ready to buy a house, so maybe we'll have better luck there.

It's insane what you get for your money on Long Island. We decided to save the rent money towards a down payment on a house. I know your situation is different, but the reality of it all is soooo sad. I wish you lots of luck and hope you find something soon!

woodhull gardens in holtsville are pretty reasonably priced and I know they allow dogs. One of my girlfriends lives there and I love her apartment, and its right near the expressway so thats a plus. HTH!

I don't have much input, but just wanted to say good luck with the apartment search, I'm sure you'll find something perfect for you and FH!
