Re: Thursday Weddings

i am getting married this thursday, and everyone I invited will be there even relatives from florida. Honestly, it pays to have it on a thursday, not only are we saving over 10, 000 dollars, but like you said, if people love you, and the ones you invited are dear to you, then they will go out of their ways to be there for you, just like vice versa. So ladies, if anyone of you think only saturday night or sunday will do, think again. You will save big on money, and you will thank yourselves when all is done:)

Re: Thursday Weddings

I know that was a probable inconvience, but then again, first you think about your finances then about your guests. I would love to have a saturday night weddding and accomadate my guests, but given we just bought a house, I would spend less on a wedding that lasts only 5 or 6 hours, and spend that money on something that lasts our lifetime.

Re: Thursday Weddings

My wedding will be on a Thursday and so far we've only had 3 people say they will not come and we've received mostly all of the responses back. Yes, there will be comments from people but trust me, those who love and care for you will come. All I say is that make it late enough that people who come out of work have time to go home and change beore coming - and also avoid traffic.....

I feel it is soooo worth it with the amount of money we are saving....just make sure you let your guests know way in advance (we sent our save the dates with Christmas Cards in December and the wedding is this October). It also gives us more of an opportunity to spend a little more on things like flowers, favors, etc. and make the wedding even more special. I think making one long weekend if you know 10 months in advance is not a big sacrifice......just think how nice it will be to come back from your honeymoon DEBT FREE!!!!

Re: Thursday Weddings

Just curious...is a thursday night wedding a lot cheaper than a friday night or saturday afternoon wedding? I know we saved thousands of dollars by having a saturday afternoon wedding. It was half the price. Is thursday night that much better? I honestly don't know and would like to know.

Re: Thursday Weddings

I have a different opinion about this. The majority of people don't have a lot of vacation days and to assume that one should be used for your wedding (and maybe even one and a half if they want to make the ceremony) is inconsiderate. I would assume out of state guests would be there b/c to justify the travel they probably are planning on taking days regardless of the day of the wedding. I know that my FH and I had to miss one of his cousin's weddings in southern NJ this year b/c it was on a Friday at 3. I don't get many days and I need them for my wedding and hm. I would do anything for my friends and family and depending on who it was, I would make the arrangements to be there, but it would be difficult for me to.

I'm not saying to not do this, but think of who your guests are and where they live. In my situation, it would not work. However, my RD is on a Thurs so my bridal party has to take off Friday (most live out of state) and they don't seem to mind. But they are obviously my closest friends. I wouldn't expect all of my 185 guests to do that.

If your guests all live on LI and are close, then do it. Save the money and they can still make it home and to work Friday if they so choose.

You have to take into consideration that not all people have the option of taking a day off. Many people have jobs where you don't come to work, you don't get paid or you're simply not able to do it. And you're talking about them having to leave early to make it to your ceremony also. I think you should do whatever will make you happy, but like some of the other ladies said, be prepared for people to grumble about the day and/or not come. Or people may come and not really let loose because they have to get up early the next day for work. Just my 2 cents

Re: Thursday Weddings

I definitely agree that in order to have a wedding on Thursday it's better that most guests live close by like on long island which is true in my case (we live in riverdale and yet are having it in long island to accomodate our guests)....I also understand that not everyone can take off from work which is why I said to make it late enough so that people can come after work and do not have to leave early from work that day.

Would I love to have a Saturday wedding in a church in the afternoon and then have the reception on Saturday night?? - OF COURSE!! But this is financially not possible and I think that even though having a wedding on a Thursday may be a huge problem for some people they have to remember that not everyone has that luxury of choice....and yes it is a lot cheaper that even a Sunday or Friday wedding

I think it is a lot to ask if your guests to expect them to take off 2 days from work for your wedding. They would have to either take off early inorder to come and either take off teh next day or leave early from your wedding inorder to get up for work. JMO but I wouldn't do it.

My friend got married 7 years ago on a Thursday. It was great. She has almost 200 people and everyone had a blast.

I have 75 people flying all the way to Italy to see me get married....the simple fact is, if they love you and want to be there...they will.

Do what you feel is best for you and FH...and only you and FH!

Re: Thursday Weddings

I am having a Thursday wedding in Sept. 2004. My FH and I want to pay for the bulk of the wedding and money is an issue. You will never find a day that makes everyone happy, some people don't like Friday weddings, some don't like Sundays, and people can have plans on weekends. While I would love to have a Saturday night wedding, we are paying literally HALF the price and are getting the same exact food and service. I polled our close family and friends to see what they thought of a Thursday wedding, and they are all for it. Plus, we are giving our nearest and dearest a year's worth of notice - if someone can't make a Thursday work for a date that far in advance...

Another great thing about a Thursday is that in addition to saving on the hall, you will get great deals with your vendors!! And not only that - you will get your pick of the litter when it comes to vendors!!

If your close family and friends can be there for you, which is what matters most, I say, go for a Thursday!

I agree with Cookie..

BUT, if your guests are cool with it, then more power to you..

I couldn't or wouldn't ever do it though.

Re: Thursday Weddings

i would not be able to go to a thursday wedding because i cannot take off from work. some people do not have flexible work schedules unfortunately.

we went to one friday wedding at the jersey shore- we skipped the ceremony (driving down the shore on a friday in june after work is terrible!!) & just went to the reception. i could not get out of work early.

Re: Thursday Weddings

I've been to a Thursday wedding before and it was fine. If the person getting married means that much to you it shouldn't really matter what day of the week it is. I personally am getting married on a Thursday and i am pretty sure the people i am inviting are coming to my wedding. Just need to give them STD notices so they can plan ahead of time.

Re: Thursday Weddings

I would go to a Thursday night wedding. You have three options:
1. Take a vacation day on Friday
2. Call in sick on Friday
3. Go to work hung over on Friday

What ever choice it is, I would be there because it means something to the person throwing the wedding.

The only advice I would give you is make sure you have a low minimum. I do believe a lot of people would not be as flexible as me and may not attend.
