i have been to a thursday wedding, but it was a hindu wedding for a couple that was having both that AND a catholic wedding (on the saturday night of the same weekend).
for a thursday night there was great attendance, but many had to work the next day and some people showed up late also due to work.
maybe a friday night is better- the party can go all night! you can def get good friday rates too.

Re: Thursday Weddings
Even better, perhaps if you make it the Thursday before a 3-day weekend, people will be able to use it as a reason to turn it into a 4-day weekend. I would be prepared for a lot of people not to stay until the end, but they'll still probably come.
Good luck!

Re: Thursday Weddings
You may get less people at the ceremony, but I think you'll be alright for your reception. You may also have people leaving around 10:30 since they'll have to get up for work the next day. Personally I would only take off for a wedding if someone really close to me was getting married. Or if it was close to the end of the year and I had extra days to use up.

Re: Thursday Weddings
I agree with all the girls here if the people want to come they will. But I think you need to be prepared for comments from some people regarding the inconvience. I know some people who have made a lot of rude comments to brides regarding their Sunday Night weddings. I think if you want it on a Thursday then you should have it then and not matter what you do you cant make anyone happy but I think it will be easier for you if you are prepared for teh possibility of rude people. Unfortunatly they are out there EMO8: And if you want Memorial Day weekend 2004, i think that you would be able to find a hall open. I just booked my hall a few weeks ago and I spoke to halls on the phone that had a day or night open that weekend! So try it. Good Luck!::

Re: Thursday Weddings
I actually had a thursday night wedding but It was in a resteraunt in the CB and the prices were the same for me. I had it on the thursday because I only wanted a very intimate affair with about 40-50 ppl and the resteraunt there would not close on a friday or sat for the public, on a thursday they were able to... It was only my family and a few close friends so I had full attendence..but like I said, it was only about 45 ppl

Jola: You know I could not be more excited for you. But I know that taking long weekends are hard for Scott with the line of work he's in.
We've had to cancel plans for long weekends at the last minute b/c something came up at work and he didn't feel comfortable leaving the desk for a few days.
Just something to consider, that it's not always easy for even the most well meaning of us to get off. Worst case, I'll be there alone. And VERY tired at work the next day.

Re: Thursday Weddings
My brother got married on a Thursday in June @ the Fox Hollow and it was great-the ceremony was @ 4:30 and whoever couldn't make it - responded NO but the people who really care will be there - out of towners and all! Do what is right for you!

Re: Thursday Weddings
A friend of mine had a Thursday night wedding and I have to say it was a big inconvenience. My husband and I had to leave work about 3pm then we hit a ton of traffic since it was rush hour. The wedding was in NJ and we were coming from LI. We allowed what we thought was more than enough time but we still missed part of the ceremony. We were so stressed by the time we got there that it was hard to have a good time. And then we had to work the next day. While I understand wanting to save money, I think caring about what is better for your guests is important. It is not realistic to assume someone can take off the next day since it is your wedding. That is just not always possible. Of course in my friend's case, she was pregnant and put the wedding together in about 3 months time so that is why she chose a Thursday night!

Re: Thursday Weddings
I know not everyone can take off..but if you give the m more than a few months notice...why cant they take off? I think if its looked at as an inconvenience...would your family say that to you? Would they care what night it was on?keep it simple with folks who really LOVE YOU and and I dont see how it could be an iconvenience!
