So my mom is single and she just ended it with her long-time BF so she isn't bringing a date to the wedding. She's not in the best mood to begin with because of the situation, but now she's giving me grief about walking into the reception.
I've asked her if there's a friend she wants to walk in with 'NO' I've asked if she wants one of her BILs to walk her in 'NO' I've asked if she wants to walk in alone 'NO' I've even asked if she doesn't want to be introduced at all -and that caused a HUGE argument. It's not a big deal at the church because she's walking me down the aisle - it's just the reception.
What do I do? She's being a total PITA about this.
Can I have a groomsman walk her in? We have 4 groomsmen and 3 BMs so he wouldn't have to come back out and do double duty, but since my mom is the first person being introduced in, would it be funny for the GM to be announced then?
Help, please!! I'm completely stressed out over this. Have my DJ meeting Wed night and this is giving me nightmares. I'm trying to be sympathetic to my mom, but I'm losing it!!!

Re: XPOST from '09 - tough mom situation
Maybe give her a few days to calm down.. not sure how recently this happened, but she's probably in a hugely emotional state right now not even realizing how irrational she's being...
I know your wedding is soon... bu you can always call the DJ if you need to to work out what to do with Mom.
Give her a week and ask her about it again.
HTH, good luck and enjoy your day!! You'll work this out

Do you have any sisters or aunts for her to walk in with?
Or a grandparent?
I know it's probably a dumb question but did you ask her - in her ideal world, what she would like to do when she walks in?

Well I mean technically she could walk in alone. Brides do it all the time. Give her a few days, bc right now she's not in the best of moods, and ask her what she would prefer. If she says alone, then let her walk in alone. Otherwise, ask her who she would like, or suggest another male in the family or one of your groomsman.

Re: XPOST from '09 - tough mom situation
I've made every suggestion under the sun - does she want to walk in with her sisters, does she want to walk in with her BILs, does she want to walk in alone, does she want to go with a groomsman, does she want to walk in with a friend?
Every response is 'no.' I asked her flat out what she wants to do and her response 'I don't want to talk about it' Ok well , the wedding is in less than 3 weeks and this is the only thing so far (aside from her dress) that I've asked of her.

does she not want to walk down the aisle at all??? if shes regecting everyone you suggest and she doesnt want to go alone, that really only leaves one option...

You could always have the DJ announce her and have her stand up in her place. But if his parents are walking in that would be odd. You probably have to do that with both or not at all.

I guess I'd tell her that she's got until the night before the wedding to figure it out or she's not getting introduced. I understand that she's going through a tough time but she's being incredibly irrational. Did this JUST happen?? That might be it...but she's gotta pull it together and not be a grump on your big day....once the wedding is over she can be as sad and grumpy as she wants.
I'm sorry if that's harsh...please nobody get upset, I'm just calling it like I see it.

Re: XPOST from '09 - tough mom situation
She's walking me down the aisle, it's the reception part that she's being irrational about.
The breakup was a long time in the making, but it's still very difficult for her, and I'm trying very hard to be supportive. It happened about a month ago. I think she's still holding out hope that things will work out. I told her this morning, that I hope things work out (even thought I don't really like this guy) but in the event that it's not straightened out by the wedding, I need to know her Plan B.
We'll see what happens.

Maybe you could just have the BP announced and not the parents. Or my sister only had her and DH announced. Noone else was.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it now. I would just leave it alone. You don't need to know until the actual day. Just have a BM/GM go up to the DJ during cocktail and let them know who to announce your mom with.

I originally only wanted FH and I announced in - no BP, no parents. FMIL had a hissy fit and FH caved to her on that point (a story for another day - add it to my list of FMIL issues).

I guess that just doesn't fit well with my very anal retentive personality
I think Wed night when I meet with the DJ I'll give him two scenarios and tell him that I'll have to let him know that day which one we're doing. It makes me absolutely crazy!!!
