Does anyone know what the process is to have a family member LEGALLY granted permission to marry someone?
I want to have my uncle marry us and unfortunately it won't be recognized by the church, but I do want to make sure that it's legitimate in the yes of the law!!
Please help! TIA

Just have them go to the universal life church's website. It's free to become ordained. It's all you need to do for LI, but for a wedding in NYC you have to be registered in NYC which is an additional step and I'm not sure how that's done.
My FH was ordained and he married friends of ours and it was totally legal! It's actually considered a religious ceremony and not a civil. We were confused about what to write in that spot on the license.
Here is the site:

And it really is totally okay because I've seen it written in both Brides and Martha Stewart Weddings.
