Is 1 hour enough time to take pictures? We are having our ceremony at 6:30 and our cocktail hour is at 8. Assuming we get to the RH by 7, 7:15, how much time will we need for pictures? The other option was to have the ceremony at 2:30, but then there would be a long gap in between and didn't want to have guests to just wander around until the cocktail hour. TIA!!

I agree with not having the ceremony too early. What happens many times is that people don´t show up for the ceremony. Plus if you have people that live far (but close enough to drive back home at the end of the night) they will have nowhere to go! Plus if oot are taking cabs they may not want to go back to the hotel and then the RH.

As for the amount of time that it takes, I´m not sure. I would be interested inhearing repsonses though.

Im having the same issue, our ceremony starts @ 4pm and then reception starts @ 5:30. FH and i thinks theres no time for us to take pics in between. I guess we might have to take pics before the ceremony starts or during cocktail hr

My ceremony starts at 2:00pm and my CH starts at 7. I did that on purpose cause I am coming from Queens to Long Island on a Friday during traffic anyone who drives on the LIE knows what im talking about.

Then I wanted atleast 2 hours for pictures I have a large bridal party and I am a picture freak myself so I need lots of time. I want to be at my hall by 6 so I can get family formals done and enjoy my CH

Is you ceremony at your RH?
Because if your ceremony is 6:30..... there is no way you will be at your hall at 7 ,7:15 if it is a seperate location unless they are super close.

Also if you are getting married in the summer traffic is nuts. A trip that is normally 30 minute will take an hour. this is our problem

Our ceremony is at 4:30 our reception is at 7:30...figure 30 minutes if it is not a mass then 15-20 min for the receiving line picture etc. You are looking at 5:30 an hour in summer traffic to my hall 6:30 ...we have an hour at the hall for pictures before the CH. I don't want to be stressed about pictures. Our solution we are meeting at a park at 2pm to take picture. We will both be calmer because we will have seen each other before the ceremony. We will get to take that experience in more and if we hit more traffic than expected no worried because we have pictures already.

I think we will end up having the ceremony at 6:15, it is not a mass so shouldn't be longer than 45 minutes with receiving line. The RH is about 10, 15 minutes away from the church. I guess we will have to take pictures for about 45 minutes before and then during the cocktail hour. I would personally rather do that than have people wait around for hours while we take pictues. I know it's our wedding and people understand, but I can't seem to rationalize having them wait for 4 or 5 hours in between. I hope that 1 hour is enough to take pictures. If not, no big deal. We'll take them during CH. We don't want to take pictures before the ceremony.

I´m leaning towards taking pics before the ceremony as well. I´m getting married at the RH so I have no time in between. My mom said she thinks I can get everything done quickly but I don´t want to miss the whole cocktail hour.

It sounds like your ceremony isn't at your RH. If that's the case there is no way you're going to make it to your RH by 7 or even 7:15. MAYBE 7:30 but then that would leave you with 30 min for pics unless your ok missing cocktail hour.

If your ceremony is at 6:30 it should end around 7.
A 5 hour gap in between is a lot.

I've heard that most photographers suggest a 2 hour window to take pics.

If you get to your RH at the time you plan, around 1 hour may be alright, but you will probably miss some of the CH. This will give you enough time to take pictures with the hubby, with the BP, and with your parents, etc. but it won't be enough time if you want to take pictures with your family and extended family.
Also, if your church isn't down the block from the RH factor in traffic and everything, especially if your wedding is on a Friday night!

Personally, I would want more time in between because I HATE that feeling of being rushed and feeling stressed that I won't have enough time to do everything.

I also don't like being rushed, but it's either having people wait 5 hours in between church and ceremony or just go right over and wait about 30/45 minutes in the hospitality area. I will probably miss half my cocktail hour to take pics, but I think 2 hours will be more than enough time.
