A-Rod is in, Soriano out.

NEW YORK -- The biggest trade since Boston sent Babe Ruth to New York became official on Monday, as the Yankees and Rangers completed the deal to bring Alex Rodriguez to New York.
Texas received second baseman Alfonso Soriano and a player to be named later. The Rangers will pick up approximately $40 million of Rodriguez's remaining contract in addition to the $27 million it still owes him, leaving the Yankees to pay $112 million over the next seven years.

The trade, which has been the talk of the baseball world since Saturday, was approved by the two clubs and the MLBPA on Sunday. Commissioner Bud Selig gave it his stamp of approval on Monday, completing the deal.

In a statement, Selig said: 'I am very concerned about the large amount of cash consideration involved in the transaction, and the length of time over which the cash is being paid. I want to make it abundantly clear to all Clubs that I will not allow cash transfers of this magnitude to become the norm. However, given the unique circumstances, including the size, length and complexity of Mr. Rodriguez' contract and the quality of the talent moving in both directions, I have decided to approve the transaction.'

Rodriguez, a two-time Gold Glove shortstop, will shift a few feet to his right, becoming New York's new third baseman. Derek Jeter will remain at shortstop, giving the Yankees a star-studded left side of the infield.

Rodriguez is expected to don his No. 13 pinstriped jersey for the first time at a Yankee Stadium press conference on Tuesday. Manager Joe Torre and team captain Jeter likely will attend the event to welcome A-Rod to the Big Apple

I agree, but something tells me A-Rod wont have any problems.

That's right.. Let's not put too much pressure on the guy. After all he is only a human being. It's very hard to play well in NY. If he hits only .200 and hits 3 homers.. That will be fine with me. He's a nice young man with a good family and he doesn't deserve to have the pressure. He should just relax and do nothing.
He shouldn't have the pressure to win.

Don't get me wrong now..I'm a NY fan and I want to see the Mets come out on top, just not gonna top my Yanks, that's all

Funny thing...I like the pitching better this year than last year. I wish Andy was still around, but other then him I think Brown & Vazquez are an improvement. Wells and Clemens are great pitchers but they don't have the stamina anymore. That was one of the reasons that the bullpens weakness was such a problem.

I think the pitchers now are healthier and the bullpen is a lot better.

I am pretty darned excited for the baseball season to begin! However, all I can say is that with the payroll and the talent the Yankees have now, nothing other than a World Series title will be acceptable. I hope A-Rod's up to the pressure.

I have no problem with the Yankees losing to small market teams. Yes of course I'd rather them win, but if they lose to a small market team it shuts people up about how the Yankees have too much money. And how the big market teams dominate. I'd rather them lose to a small market team then another team with a high payroll.
