NEW YORK -- The biggest trade since Boston sent Babe Ruth to New York became official on Monday, as the Yankees and Rangers completed the deal to bring Alex Rodriguez to New York. Texas received second baseman Alfonso Soriano and a player to be named later. The Rangers will pick up approximately $40 million of Rodriguez's remaining contract in addition to the $27 million it still owes him, leaving the Yankees to pay $112 million over the next seven years.
The trade, which has been the talk of the baseball world since Saturday, was approved by the two clubs and the MLBPA on Sunday. Commissioner Bud Selig gave it his stamp of approval on Monday, completing the deal.
In a statement, Selig said: 'I am very concerned about the large amount of cash consideration involved in the transaction, and the length of time over which the cash is being paid. I want to make it abundantly clear to all Clubs that I will not allow cash transfers of this magnitude to become the norm. However, given the unique circumstances, including the size, length and complexity of Mr. Rodriguez' contract and the quality of the talent moving in both directions, I have decided to approve the transaction.'
Rodriguez, a two-time Gold Glove shortstop, will shift a few feet to his right, becoming New York's new third baseman. Derek Jeter will remain at shortstop, giving the Yankees a star-studded left side of the infield.
Rodriguez is expected to don his No. 13 pinstriped jersey for the first time at a Yankee Stadium press conference on Tuesday. Manager Joe Torre and team captain Jeter likely will attend the event to welcome A-Rod to the Big Apple

yes, I am. I really liked him. I won't stop wearing his shirt though. But sh1t happens in these years in baseball. It's not like the old times where you were on the team for life...everythings about $$.

Of course .. I also am VERY sad that we had to lose Soraino as a result of gaining A-Rod .. he is a great player and will go far in the league. But as BellaBella said, its the nature of the game these days..
Hell I still have a Yankee/Tino Martinez jersey that I wear loyally!!

I'll still wear my Soriano shirt. I still have my Justice shirt and I have a Wells Jersey that I'll wear. I'll miss Soriano. I think he has a lot of talent and I loved watching him play. But A-Rod is a very nice replacement.

Let's just wait till the season starts, shall we. We're going further than 125 wins this year. I think that says enuff
Oh Bella.. you're so cute with that 125 win stuff. (Not with that pitching staff.) But you can dream about 125... I will not dash dreams. Never have. Never will.
(Evil OctGroom is dormant at this early morning momentt. LOL)
But I do agree to you.. it is very important for the Yankees to lose to small market teams. And I hope they are able to fulfill this at every given opportunity.. LOL
OK.. that's enough...
I don't want EVILOctGroom waking up... LOL

Thank you!!! Yes, I am so upset. I think that A-Rod should have had to stay at Texas and ROT!!! It is what he deserves for being so incredibly greedy and so incredibly conceited to think that he was going to turn that team around single-handedly
I am hoping that Soriano will be available for the Yanks to pick up at the end of the season.
*Keeping fingers crossed.*

I'm definitely going to miss Soriano, but I won't say no to the getting one of the best players in baseball, either!
Still worried about the pitching staff, though. The whole Pettitte debacle made me so, so sad! He was great and Steinbrenner just didn't treat him right! I still like Mussina, though...
