Andy Pettitte has signed with the Houston Astros!!!

Here is where it said he was on the verge...
STORY
It's Houston's newspaper.

However, it appears the club never budged much from its original offer of around $30 million over three years. Pettitte’s father, Tom, told the New York Times on Tuesday that the family was frustrated by the Yankees’ seeming disinterest in signing Pettitte.

This is what makes me nervous. His own father said this.

Re: Yankees Fans....

I just read on Yahoo Sports that the Yankees have offered him 3 million MORE per year than the Astors (13 v. 10 per year), but that he has not made a final decisin. HOWEVER, he did take and pass a physical for the Astros. I don't recall anyone ever doing that unless the deal was done. He is supposed to decide and make an announcement by tomorrow. I am sad. I think he will leave to return to his Texas home. How can he leave us???????? Maybe loyalty to the team he has been with for so long will win out.

I am hoping for a miracle like the time Steinbrenner yanked Wells out of the grip of the Rockies a few years ago. That deal was as good as done, too, before the boss weighed in.

I just can't deal with losing Andy.

Also, I think Noram is pissed that the Red Sox are considering moving him to third to allow A-Rod to play SS. I don't think they actually want to get rid of him.

ETA: Sadly I just read on Newsday.com that the Astros have called a press conference for 11 am today. No question about it now - our Andy has left

Re: Yankees Fans....

Left-hander Andy Pettitte decided to pitch at home, agreeing Dec.11 to a three-year contract with the Astros. Pettitte made the decision after weighing a new offer from the Yankees on Dec. 10, a baseball source said on the condition of anonymity. The Yankees' offer averaged about $13 million a year, while the Astros' proposal averaged about $13 million. Pettitte, 31, is 149-78 with the Yankees, who signed him in 1991. If he had stayed in New York, he would have had the chance to surpass Whitey Ford's 236 victories and become the winningest left-hander in Yankees history.

This SU*CKS!!!!!!!!!

That REALLY sucks

We'll miss him dearly.

Re: Yankees Fans....

Tell me if if this makes sense. The Yankees are willing to sign Garry Sheffield for $39m for three years but they were only willing to give their best pitcher $30m for three years.

He just had a press confrence it wasn't about the money. He wanted to be near his family.

I am so upset!!!! George is forgetting his homegrown guys and going out and getting people who never ever should be Yankees! I am disgusted by this. What the hell is he thinking?

I am sure that had the Yankees expressed any real interest in keeping Pettitte, other than making a last minute counter offer when it was probably already too late, he would have stayed in New York. He loved playing here and he had expressed a desire to stay. However, when the team goes out and takes care of other deals without making a deal with one of it's best players first, I can't say that I blame him for leaving.

I will miss him a lot and I think the team will too. George is getting old and crotchety and losing his mind!

Totally agree!!! Andy Pettitte's father was saying how no one talked to him after the game 6 loss. If they had talked to him right away there is no doubt in my mind that he would still be in pinstripes.
